This has been amusing me for two days now.

I don't think they're bred for amusement. I think they're bred for milk or food, and possibly for scientific research. Then again, what I know about goats is not a lot.

Casual research indicates that they're a meat/pet breed...

And, of course, it isn't possible to breed a goat for milk or food that doesn't fall over when it gets fed or scared [/sarcasm]

But hey, if these people bred normal goats, they wouldn't be able to see themselves on youtube or the local news on a slow day, would they?

Er, sorry to touch a nerve there. I won't ask what you think of munchkin cats.

No. Don't, really. Don't ask any veterinarian or veterinary technician who's supposed to try and alleviate the pain when they have arthritis at 3 years old.

Poor little guys. I'm glad I have a mutt cat.

I should know better but--

...is it possible to judge all breeders of a breed by a few yahoos on the Internet?

Probably not. But can anyone give a valid reason for breeding these, other than as entertaining freaks?

A few individuals in a neurological research facility would be one thing. If they're registered as a breed, and people are being encouraged to breed them, that's just humans showing how sick they are, yet again.

From what I remember, something they have also been used for (no idea if it's done anymore, probably not since there'd likely be protests) is to have fainting goats together with more "vital" livestock, so that in the case of a predator attacking, the other animals will get away as the fainting goat becomes the easy target.
