I'm going to get my new Honda Fit this week. We looked at the Scion xD, and while it did make me think twice, I still like the Fit better.

So excited. It's adorable and fun, and it reminds me of my dear departed Red Rocket.

Now to get a big magnetic block "R" for the tailgate! :D

That was a major factor in the decision-making process! ;)

Sounds like a good choice to me. It's sold as the Honda Jazz in Europe (a much better name if you ask me!) and the motoring press have been enamoured of it since it first appeared there. Nobody seems to be able to find much bad to say about that car at all.

I wonder why they changed the name? Jazz seems like a perfectly good car name - perhaps there was another marque in the US that used the name long ago. The car does have a very Euro flavor, by which I mean that it's small, sporty, versatile, and gets good gas mileage.

Monday night on Top Gear, the Seven was featured in a silly event where the hosts had to assemble a Seven before the Stig could drive from one end of England to Scotland. I thought of you tootling around in your Seven. :) It's a very pretty little roadster!

Ah, yes, the pack of idiots building a car XD We torrent eps of Top Gear as they come out in the UK, so we saw that one a while back. I'm sure the Stig had a much better day than the rest of them did. (And you can see why we chose to have ours built for us!)

"Pack of idiots" is exactly right - we just died when they dropped the car on the floor. Of course, nothing beat the Stig getting pulled over in Scotland by some very Scottish policemen and not being able to talk back. Absolutely priceless.

I'm very much hoping to catch the episode where they buy cars in the US. The segment in Alabama was alarming (but at the same time, wtf did they expect? I'm sure the trio thought it was all for fun and didn't take seriously the reaction they might get from the locals... who weren't amused in the slightest.)

I think the assumption was that the stereotype must be outdated and exaggerated, and there can't really be a state where people that nutty are still that common. It would have been nice if they'd been right.

Between you and another friend talking about the awesomeness of the Fit, I looked it up.

I WANT I WANT I WANT I WANT

Now I'm thinking more about trading in my old faithful 11-year-old Chevy Cavalier. It's closing in on 100K miles, and it hasn't needed any significant repairs other than a new alternator 3 years ago. We can afford a new car, but the engineer in me has trouble letting go of one that still works and is paid off. Then again, it would be nice to not worry about the inevitable day when something goes and it costs more to fix than I can justify paying on an old car.

Well, the practical part of me agrees that as long as your Chevy isn't giving you any trouble, it's hard to justify getting a new car. That's the "Click and Clack (http://www.cartalk.com)" rule - once the repair bill exceeds monthly payments, it's time for a new car. The situation you describe is the reason we traded in my 1990 Integra: the suspension was shot, and the cost of the repairs exceeded the worth of the car.

On the other hand, the Fit is cute and sporty and very practical. The seats fold down in all different ways, and you can put all kinds of stuff in there. It's a Honda, so you know it's going to be ultra-reliable. The price is right, too! We got ours for $16,365. Not bad at all!

We thought about the Versa, and I saw one on the road home today and admired it, but I was sold on the Fit from the get-go. I liked the styling the best, and price was not that much more than the Scion. But, it's hard to go wrong with a Nissan!

These little "people carriers" are terrific! You get a smallish, fuel-efficient car that can haul stuff anywhere, and you don't have to feel like a soccer mom. Bonus!
