To start, a fast rant:

I have been on the subway/metro in several different cities: Montreal, Paris, Boston, Washington DC, and NYC. Of these, the NYC metro is by far the most confusing. It must be an initiation into the club to learn how to get where you're going.

Went into NYC today for no particular reason other than it was nice out and we felt like it. We decided to take the train, and most of the day was spent either on the bus (service to Summit was suspended due to whateverthefuck they are doing on Route 202), on the train, or on the subway.

I had never been to the Cloisters, so that's where we went. It always makes me feel guilty to get in using my corporate ID, but it's $40 in my pocket. It was amazing to see the Unicorn Tapestries. Although the unicorn is supposed to be an allegory for Christ, it reminded me that a very medieval (well, maybe not so medieval) mindset was, "Hey, look! A fabulous beast! Let's kill it!" There were several pleasant gardens, one with small sections devoted to medicinal plants, culinary plants, and magic plants (mandrake, rue, vervain, mugwort, etc.)

We went back downtown to the tune of more track troubles and had to get off before Canal St, where we were hoping to go Faulex and Fauxmega shopping. That was OK, because the friends we were meeting for dinner live at Prince and West Broad. I insisted on going through a nearby street fair, and there was a kimono vendor, probably from The Kimono House. Picked up a lovely deep green iromuji, only $30.

The heavens opened up at about 4:30, so we called our friends and asked to come over early. It's always nice to visit with them, and they were happy to see us. We went to dinner at a wonderful French/Moroccan place called Country Cafe, and there went my diet.

Trip home was harried - we missed the train uptown to Penn Station and had to get a cab. Then it was back on the bus to slog towards Far Hills. Tomorrow we really have to clean this place, it's a pit.

Just back from our yearly trip to Montreal. It wasn't a good year for Ferrari, but we did see the new British wunderkind Lewis Hamilton win his maiden GP. We also saw a horrific crash (search "Robert Kubica crash" on youtube; the videos have been getting TOSed) that miraculously resulted in nothing more than a mild concussion and a sprained ankle for the driver.

It occurs to me that I've been going to Montreal for four years, and I've never really told all you guys out in LJ-land what we do there.

O HAY GUYS

Are any of you guys on Facebook? I just joined it b/c an old friend from high school was on it, and even though Ell Jay will always be my blog o'choice (Strikegate notwithstanding), three friends on the list looks a bit sad. So, tell me where you are!

My email is crawlybug at gmail dot com if you want to add me.

[livejournal.com profile] fallnangelspike, I used the photo you took of me at ANext (Isane in sunglasses.) Because Facebook is SRS BIZNESS.

Anyone want an OMG OFFICIAL FOR REALS copy of PSP8? With doorstop manual and everything? In the (battered) box?

$25 or best offer!

If the program doesn't work for some reason, I'll refund, no worries.
moonwise: (cosplay)
Yes, I know I'm sick in the head, but it would be so awesome to cosplay the Esper Ultima from FFXII. Without the box on the bottom, of course.

On Friday night, husband and I went out to see the zombie training film "28 Weeks Later." We found "28 Days Later" to be such a useful resource that we ended up buying it, and although we did not expect "28 Weeks Later" to live up to its predecessor, it got a 70% from Rotten Tomatoes and we figured it couldn't be all bad.

And, it wasn't. Not nearly as good as "28 Days Later," but I didn't walk out of the theater wanting my money back. Although, I was deeply concerned at how few people had come to see the movie with us. Don't they understand that scenarios such as these have been made to make people think about preparations for a Class 4 outbreak?

So, let's go over some of the points of the movie and see what it has to teach us.

The more right-wing groups that come out against Rudy Giuliani, the more I want to vote for him.

Christian right leader writes off Giuliani

If voting in a primary didn't mean choosing an affiliation, I'd do that too.

I would really love to go to Dragon*Con.

Pity it's on Labor Day weekend. Husband would be sad if I left him alone on a holiday weekend.

Sigh.

(oh my but cosplaying as one of my favorite book characters would be lovely, lovely, lovely...)

From CNN:

Rowling: Please don't give away Potter details

"We're a little under three months away, now, and the first distant rumblings of the weirdness that usually precedes a Harry Potter publication can be heard on the horizon," Rowling wrote on her Web site Monday.

Rowling has said two major characters will die in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," which comes out July 21. Although the Potter books are released under tight security, copies often are obtained before the publication date.

Tonight, after our rousing 17-11 softball victory (which I had nothing to do with besides keeping score) we polished off 100 hot wings, three pizzas, and six pitchers of beer.

Awesome.

I will make a real update... sooner or later.

Instead, here's some stuff I want to get rid of because I want to buy other stuff. It's the circle of life. (feel free to link elsewhere.)

Prices are negotiable. Mostly, I want these things out of the house.

For sale... )

If you're interested, leave a comment. Shipping will be based on total weight of the items, and I will ship either Priority Mail or Media Mail based on your specifications. I take Paypal or USPS money orders.

Somehow I got sunburned on the backs of my upper arms today, and it hurts like a mofo.

We agreed on a house price today. Yay. House needs a good bit of work, and we are not going to pay for French wells. Guess who will pay to have that remediated (hint: not us.)

Looked at lots of furniture. Shit, Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel are expensive.

Today was the second annual Rescue the Pansies Day. The johnny-jump-ups I bought two years ago have reseeded themselves all over the lawn for the second time, so to avoid the cruel blades of Mr. Lawn Mower, I spent the afternoon digging them up and replanting them.

Fannish news: I HAS A TOURNESOL. w00t.

There will be pictures and more talk when it is not 10:30 at night, but husband and I got back from our weekend at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC amid torrential rain. It was great fun, we saw lots of things we hadn't seen before, and I got to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] buttercup0222.

Am much excited about showing you all the photos of the four geisha that I saw. They danced for half an hour, and even my husband was entranced. I'm so glad I got to see geisha before they are all gone.

Sellers of house are still jerking the fishing line. It's got me all strung out.

On a happier note, you all should check out the FST I just posted.

Arafel and husband: We like this house! Let's bid on it.

*make bid*

Sellers: Um, ok. We'll knock 3K off the price JUST FOR YOU.

Us: OK, screw you, you won't play nice.

*repeat showing was cancelled*

*weekend goes by*

Sellers: ...where'd you go? Don't you want to make another offer?

Us: You're not the only game in town, bitches.

Sellers: *fretfretfret*

Heh heh heh. Let's see what tomorrow brings.
moonwise: (peep bunny)
Arafel: Hm. I am going out for my cousin's birthday on Saturday. I need to borrow that buy a new top.

*Arafel goes to mall*

Arafel: Ann Taylor has cute tops... nice one at Banana... maybe I'll go back to Black Market/White House...

*Arafel buys pants*

Goddammit. -_-;

And then I got caught in the traffic caused by a bomb scare at the Bridgewater Mall, so I was late to class. Yay!

We're going to a friend's retirement dinner in NYC tonight that promises to be a lavish and tasty affair. I went out to White House/Black Market to get something to wear and ohmygodispentsomuchmoney. *weeps* And I had to buy my father a birthday gift and my mother needs one too and I bought some stuff from Amazon and oh shit we are going to buy a house soon and my bank account is crying.

Eh, you can't put a price on fabulous and omg the shoes are fabulous.

p.s. we might possibly potentially have found our house, news at 11.

Lá fhéile Pádraig shona daoibh!

If I eat one more thing tonight, my stomach is going to explode.

My in-laws came up for St. Patrick's Day to visit with us and to drive around some of the areas where we are looking at houses. We went out to Mannion's, one of the local Irish-themed pubs, to have lunch before driving around Branchburg. It wasn't anything new for husband or me, but they are excited for us and want to be a part of our home-buying experience, so it was nice to have them along.

I decided to make a big Irish dinner for everyone - lamb stew, soda bread, oatmeal cake, the whole nine yards. The cake was beyond frustrating. I was using a recipe from an Irish cookbook that's usually quite reliable, and it said to bake the thing at 350F for 30 min. So, last night, I did just that, intending to put the topping on later. The cake was underdone and the center fell in. Crap. I tried it again today, letting it bake 10 minutes longer, and the freaking thing STILL wasn't done, so I got mad and kicked up the oven temp to 450 and let the thing roast.

And wouldn't you know it, the cake was divine.

We did watch a bit of the parade, and I called my uncle to see how he was doing on St. Patty's. He sounded tired, but he was his usual self: rantrantranthowaboutthemgiantsokiloveyoubyebye. Because there's just no crying for him, despite the prognosis, you just have to laugh and say "Okay, Uncle John."

Right now I'm on Wakeup Duty, because the first F1 race of the season is tonight, starting at 10:30PM. Husband is snoozing on the couch in anticipation. I'll probably watch about the first ten laps and fall asleep. XD Sadly, the driver I'm interested in now that Schumi has retired had a gearbox problem and will start 16th.

Hope everyone else had more beers than I did (two.)
