Somehow I got sunburned on the backs of my upper arms today, and it hurts like a mofo.

We agreed on a house price today. Yay. House needs a good bit of work, and we are not going to pay for French wells. Guess who will pay to have that remediated (hint: not us.)

Looked at lots of furniture. Shit, Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel are expensive.

Today was the second annual Rescue the Pansies Day. The johnny-jump-ups I bought two years ago have reseeded themselves all over the lawn for the second time, so to avoid the cruel blades of Mr. Lawn Mower, I spent the afternoon digging them up and replanting them.

Fannish news: I HAS A TOURNESOL. w00t.

Save the pansies!

I'm in love with Ikea. We wouldn't have nearly as much furniture if it weren't for them. We got our whole bedroom set (solid wood, 2 dressers, 2 nightstands) for around $600. Yes, they have a lot of crappy cheap stuff, but there's a lot of quality there too.

We, too, have quite a bit of furniture from Ikea! :) Some of it will go in the kitchen, and some will become a guest room. You can't beat the prices!

Oh, congrats on the house! Hope the sale goes through without too many hassles, but at least there are less worries on that front in the US than in Britain. I take it this is the one with all the wildlife? :-)

Thanks! Actually, we elected not to go with the house with all the wildlife - the commute was simply too problematic, and the area is prone to flooding. This is the house we're bidding on now. (http://new.gsmls.com/public/getMediaReport.do?mlsNum=2387255&imageCount=10) We still run a risk of getting sniped, even under contract, but there are a lot of other houses on the market if we lose this one.

That looks nice and big :-) I see you're going to have the same problem we have with all those blank white walls to fill! Nice bathroom.

Yes, there do seem to be many walls for pictures. :) We do have some art and lithographs and stuff like that in the attic, and if that doesn't work, there's always Ikea!

The bathroom was definitely a selling point. You must have a bath on the Roman scale; it's key. And bath bombs.

Yep, that's the house. We're only at the first stage of buying, which is to agree on a price - now we have to have a home inspection, and I'm sure Mr/Ms. Home Inspector is going to find some big issues, because we already found them. Then we have to work out who's going to pay for those issues, so that's the next step. :) Moving day is a long way from set!

French well... I'm not 100% sure myself, but it's something like a gravel pit that you can dig and fill over if your house has persistent problems with water. ^_^;

Totally trufax.

Where I live now? Parents bought this and sold our own house within one week. It was...wow.

Get a super great home inspector.

Also, my mom pointed out that I should ask if you've been to the Crate & Barrel outlet in Cranbury I think? Super deals, if you know what sizes you can have she said, as there's not necessarily a lot of choices of size. She bought a four person round wood dining table for $70 there.

Congratulations on the house!!! :))

I hope you get it!

It looks great! The front reminds me of your parents' house and I like that the living room and kitchen is separated by some steps. Just don't forget the stairs when you're carrying plates and food into the living room. :)

Do you have some aloe vera cream? It works wonders on sunburns.

And the pansies will probably thank you by creating some nice looking flowers. ^__^

Thank you! I hope we can manage it too, we are a long way from the end with the sellers!

You're very perceptive - the layout of the house is very similar to my parents' former residence. It feels very familiar inside because of that. We will have to be careful of the stairs for sure, though!

Sadly, we do not have any aloe vera cream, but we do have some after-sun lotion from the company store. It feels good and smells nice too. :)

How was your weekend?

I hope the after sun lotion helped at least a little bit for the sun burn.

The house isn't located in the same area as your parents' house? I noticed that several houses looked from the outside to be similar to your parents' house.

Is there a garden too? That can't be as large as your parents' garden. :)

My weekend was good and quiet. I worked on Sunday morning to have the afternoon free. It's always a relief to get the work done early.

I hope you had a good weekend too. Sounds like it was busy with scoping out the house and starting on the sale.

Woo, yay for house! Boo for sunburn. :(

P.S. What's a tournesol? And french wells for that matter.

The Tournesol (Sunflower) is one of the best weapons in FFXII, and you get it by selling all kinds of frustrating-to-get and rare loot and spending shitloads of gil. I had to have it b/c it has a big sunflower on the hilt and is therefore Pretty.

Re: French wells - see comment to [livejournal.com profile] buttercup0222.

Oooh, awesome! I'm still so behind in that game, but I am in Pirate Town now, pausing to level up so I can get the good spells and such that are there. BLACK SPELLS 3 FTW.

And huh, haven't heard of French wells before. I'll count that as my Thing I Learned Today.
