I'm using a normal foot, though I have hem feet and blind hem feet (and no idea how to use either!) I use the hem stitch on my machine, which looks like this (bad ASCII art ahead!) www\/www\/www
You fold up your hem, then flip it back about 1/4 inch or less so that the bottom edge of your hem is exposed. You stitch along this edge, and the bottom of the big V stitch should just nip the folded fabric. This has the advantage of finishing your hem with the little zigzags, and it makes a blind hem at the same time.
