You know what's even scarier than anime cosplay? Star Wars cosplay.

That having been said, there's one Princess Leia costumer who probably sent every geek at the con back to his room with a bottle of baby oil.

I hope someone dressed up as Mara Jade. I luff her and I don't care that she's a Mary Sue.

Some of the star wars costumes are really beautiful I think- and I'm not talking about the overdone stormtrooper with accessories bit. This site has some great outfits that Amidala wears and someday I'd love to do some of them http://www.padawansguide.com/index.shtml

I especially like this one http://www.padawansguide.com/secondblue.shtml

and this one http://www.padawansguide.com/pastel_gallery.shtml

Some of those fansview cosplayers really looked very similar to the real actors. Wow! IMho its never a necessdity that a cosplayer have the physical features that look just like a character but when by happenstance it ends up the case, it really enhances the whole presentation!

Oh, no argument about some of the costumes being terrific. The SW costuming seems very mature as an art, and there are some talented people sewing for it.

One of the chicks as Leia in her slave outfit looked great. I think Star Wars cosplayers have a slightly better sense of who they can be as opposed to the Anime fans. I'd love to do Amidala's Theed palace dress. I could be Amidala.

I haven't seen any of the prequels besides the first, and that one only once. ^_^; Amidala's outfits were indeed spectacular from what I remember.

Something tells me the slave Leia chick was only there cause her boyfriend told her she'd get a lot of attention. You don't see attractive people at these things for the same reasons everyone else is there. XD

I'd have to agree with you there. However, she does look terrific.

As much as I love Carrie Fisher and think she's a beautiful strong woman, she wasn't that emptyheadedly pretty. XD The costume is good, though, and probably store-bought. *bitter cosplayer, raar* XD

I consider myself a pretty geek, but not THAT pretty. XD

Forget Leia, that's a pretty nice Han.

He's ok. I'll take SW-vintage Harrison Ford any day, though. XD (Not in his current vintage, tho. Harrison's not aging gracefully.)

wah! He's sex on a stick in that - like all Peter Weir films, it's atmospheric, well-written, well-acted and beautiful. You're missing out on a true classic.

I am shocked and apalled at the lack of handmaiden cosplay on the site. (All - okay, most - costumes related to Amidala and her HMs are gorgeous.)

Mainly because I know a whole crew of 'em that're supposed to be there. Though I think today was when they were planning on dressing up, so we'll see!

I'm sure that there will be plenty of SW cosplay from Friday onwards. The webmaster only had Thursday pics up, of course.

I find the whole cosplay thing scary. I don't think there are really any cons or such over here that people could dress up for, or if there are they haven't been around for long. Anime's not big here, most people have no idea what it is I think, and those who do are probably under 15 years of age. It was never the thing for my generation, but those who are kids now are slowly starting to get into it, like my sister's kids for an example who are around 10 years old, more or less. When I was into anime and manga (ten years ago) there was probably less than a handful of people in the country who actively sought for information on anime, so it's really no wonder why there are no cons either, since most people who'd be interested in them are on the most part way too young to arrange any. I think they're working on it now though since anime's slowly sinking in.
I think the slightly older people (20+) are more into LARP here, which I find even scarier. There's no Halloween tradition here either - the only tradition I can think of that involves a lot of dressing up is Palm Sunday, but that's for small children, and they all dress up as little witches. @_@

I appreciate the hours of work people put into their costumes and such, I really do, so I think I'd be more at home looking at all the pretty (or weird) costumes people have sewn. I know for a fact that I'm unable to keep a straight face if I see people LARPing. It's just the way they talk and wave their oversized rubber weapons that makes me giggle. :/
