I've been thinking a lot recently about the keeping of this journal, and what I want it to be for. When I first started keeping an electronic journal almost... what, three years ago? it seemed I had a lot more interesting to say. Now, it seems I spend a lot of my entries talking about something inconsequential.

It makes me wonder what prompted the switch, and the only overarching thought is that Real Life got more interesting, and instead of going to work in a lab where no one even said "good morning," now I go to work and spend half the day laughing my ass off or pulling my hair out.

You can't write about that kind of thing in a journal, where the best explanation you can come up with is "you had to be there." I don't think I'm a deep or a thoughtful person most of the time, at least so much as I'm capable of verbalizing it. It would be nice to be that way, but you can't change an apple into an orange, and it's taken me a long time to try and settle with that.

I have strong opinions about things, but talking a lot about divisive topics is a quick way to stop having friends, especially when your views are probably not shared by most of the people you interact with. So, it's better just to say nothing. Some folks can make LJ Drama and be OK with it; some of us would rather not be the subject of other people's hostility. I count myself among the latter.

So, what to do? Continue to gabble about anime? Or start another journal like [livejournal.com profile] mullenkamp did for the one or two people on my list who might care to read? I'll be thinking about it.

I wouldn't start another journal. I had three at one point, and wish I didn't; now I'm down to two (pointedview (http://www.livejournal.com/users/pointedview/) is the other one, if you're interested. I post there much more frequently, just don't tell the folks there about this account, 'cause this is the secret journal).

It's much easier in the long run to just make a few Friends filters if you really think so few of us would be interested. :)

I agree. I enjoy reading your LJ entries, even if they are ones that you may consider tedious.

I don't comment on them, because we really know little about each other, and there's not much I can say. But I do read them, and I am interested, if only to gain another perspective on life from my own narrow viewpoint. If anime is all you have to write about at some times, there's nothing wrong with that, but 'you had to be there' entries aren't pointless by any means, if you feel inclined to write them. :)

I know for the divisive topics, at least, I'd personally be fine. If it's politics or whatever - I've thought about what you've mentioned, briefly, in the past regarding your opinions on subjects, and I've never been offended or thrust into a seething rage of 'must-smash!' If anything, it's given me incentive to think and challenge my own opinions, and I've started changing a few perceptions of mine because, y'know, you've definitely got a point with whatever opinion made me do so.

In any case, whatever you decide is fine; I've found having multiple LJs - even just for writing - can be something of a hassle, but that really might just be me. :D
