couple thoughts for Monday morning
Aug. 5th, 2002 09:50 amI got to watch some of my Rurouni Kenshin DVD over the weekend, over husband's grumbly protests. And...
Kenshin is a cutie pie! :D He seems to want to be an ordinary lovable schlub, but he's got this reputation and the backbone to go with it. Hee hee, I can't wait to see where this is going and I must needs search Ebay and Half.com for more DVDs on the cheap.
In my head he has an Irish accent kinda sorta, because he says "oro" and has this speech pattern I associate with this Irish guy a friend of mine dated. She picked up the speech pattern (i.e. saying "I'm going to do something, I am") and it was quite silly, esp since she was Jewish.
I don't even want to think about the chaos that will ensue with the cat lady house when Vash the Stampede arrives, b/c the description of him is "nimrod" and "dork" and I have this feeling that he's really going to get along with Laguna.

We went to the Q's over the weekend for Ginger's shower. There were far too many people there for the small house in which it was held, so I spent as much time as I could hiding in the back room watching Contact. It was uncomfortable and hot.
Funny how a crowd at a place I don't want to be bothers me, but the zillions of people at Otakon didn't?
Spent some nice time with Mom Q on Sunday and then we visited Paul and Ginger's new condo. They've done a nice job w/it but damn damn damn I was jealous as hell, it was really terrible, the worst kind of green-eyed jealousy. I'd love to get out of our little cramped apt. and into somewhere with closet space; never intended on living there, what, almost 2 years now? But I know why we're living where we are and I try to remember to be grateful that we have a low rent and the ability to live beneath our means.
Most of the time it's okay, but sometimes... god it sucks.
Forgot to log on last night to bid on that Zetsuai VCD. Bleagh. Maybe next time, with the car payments I really shouldn'd be buying all this stuff. :P

Date: 2002-08-05 07:36 am (UTC)Good luck on getting the Zetsuai VCD. I imagine hubby can watch James Bond, and Arafel can be off watching her VCD on the PC. ;)

Date: 2002-08-05 10:31 am (UTC)I spotted a Vash yaoi dj on eBay on Friday and had to check out the cover, didn't buy it but the guy doing the crazy Vash dance on Sat at Otakon made me like the character. How old is the character supposed to be ? I can imagine him, Laguna, Reno and Christian really making the house chaotic... and doing shooting matches in the garden and Sat night improvised parties in the kitchen fun heh heh.
Hmmm.... I'm sure Zetsuai would be downloadable from sources on the net but they'd probably be low quality DivX videos... they should come up on eBay occasionally though.... *grin* I assume no PAL versions have been made so I don't even look for it.
I think your place was decent, you had some amount of space and a kitchen that was separate from the living room which is always great. Heck it was more room than a lot of ppl I know had when they started out. Some ppl pay a lot of money to buy smaller living space than what you have, to live in permanently... but you'll get out of there when you and hubby are done with school, getting jobs have a tendency to do that, it always does. :)

Date: 2002-08-05 11:07 am (UTC)Don't rule out Vinny there either, he has a gun and you just never know!
The Zetsuai I saw was a VCD, so I assume it was something you could play on the computer. However... forgot to bid. :P Pah.

You're 110% right, which is why I try try try not to complain. I mean... what if I lived in Japan, where that apt. would be a freaking mansion? Or in NYC, where it would cost about triple? It's very ungrateful of me to resent where I'm living... but when I see what other people have at the same age, esp. family and friends, sometimes I get upset. I shouldn't, you're quite right about that...

Date: 2002-08-05 11:23 am (UTC)Uh oh, Vash is old enough to drink and Laguna and the other guys' age; 27.
Here's some info on him:

"Love Hunter" o_O LOL !
I should take a look at eBay too for more Zetsuai VCDs....
You'll get a better apartment further down the line, grad school always means an extended status as student, with the finances that goes with that status. It's different for ppl who start working right after school.

Date: 2002-08-06 11:21 pm (UTC)I'm familiar with the site already but thanks for the link all the same.
I would guess most yaoi fansubs would be sold on private web sites or via individuals... we'll see...

Date: 2002-08-06 09:47 am (UTC)When I first moved into my little efficiency in Michigan, I thought, Wow, I am so happy and decided that I could live that way forever. One room in a rooming house, private bathroom, but no kitchen... but it was all MY space. (I lived at home throughout college). When I went home to visit once, I stopped in and talked with my ex-boy's parents. I told his mom that I thought I would live that way as long as possible, and then just save all the money I made as my salary increased. His mom said, "Oh just wait, when you get older you'll want nicer things." It's so true.
Anyway, I feel the same way when I go visit a friend my age and they have a house or a new car or or or... I want all those things, too! But I don't think that appreciating what you have and wanting something nicer have to be separate things. I wouldn't feel too guilty about it. It sounds like you appreciate what you have more than most of the grad students I know.

Date: 2002-08-07 07:01 am (UTC)Not that I want to move back there... but resentment is certainly part of why that apt bugs me so much. Again, I know it's wrong of me to feel that way, but it happens.
Hope that you and Brian can get something nice for yourselves when you move to Washington. It's a tough situation when you feel like you really want to be moving on with your life, but circumstances don't permit just yet.

Date: 2002-08-09 07:29 am (UTC)You'll be graduating and potentially moving on soon enough though, right?. :)
I didn't do much writing about it in my LJ, but Brian and I did end up finding a really nice apartment. I thought we'd barely be able to afford a lateral move, much less an upgrade in apartment status, but the new place is a definite upgrade. Brian's parents are concerned that we'll be living a little too "high on the hog," but I think we'll be fine. We're going to have to watch our budget more than we have here, but it's time that we grow up a bit anyway.
