May. 14th, 2002 10:21 amTime for a couple random bits.
Saw some road rage on my way to work this morning. It wasn't clear to me whether these two had some history already, but we were at a stoplight and there was a red Volvo station wagon who was (seemingly deliberately) slow to get on the gas pedal. The Buick behind it was laying on the horn and the Volvo inched off. The Buick swerved around the Volvo and cut him off, whereupon the Volvo took off after the Buick. (I was in the right lane and stayed out of the way.) Last I saw, the Volvo had cut the Buick off at a stoplight and put on its blinkers, then the driver got out and was all set to go scream at the driver of the Buick. I saw the Buick dodging the angry driver as I drove off.
Makes me glad that I am a fairly laid-back driver in terms of letting other people's offenses slide. You never know who has a gun these days, so I cuss with the windows up.
Am currently engaged in some sleuthing work concerning this compound we have as a potential drug. The company that is working on it is getting close to submitting it to the FDA, and they have their collective panties in a large bunch over some things. This is what happens when the information flow between MD's and chemists breaks down - the MD's don't remember our previous data and don't really understand it anyway. I have a big lump of their stuff to play with and play with it I shall.
I must pin the boss down this week about some experiments. I went ahead and ordered some amino acids for host-guest binding studies - Sigma has a nice kit available with all 20 natural AA's. Makes my life a lot easier that way, not having to order each one individually.
Aside from that I have been trying to write and steadily wearing out batteries on my portable CD player in the process. Things are coming along and I'm finally starting to see the sword coming out of the amorphous bar of metal.
Hubby has his committee meeting today for progress evaluation so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for him. He's been pulling some late nights and he deserves some rest. He'll take tomorrow off - I wish I could stay home with him, but the boss wants some text from all six of us peroxynitrite people by Friday so that will most likely be my project this week.
And that's all I have to say about that. :)

Date: 2002-05-14 07:39 am (UTC)And I definitely would be cautious about doing anything at all in a place like NJ or NY... Eeep.
Good luck on your detective work, I hope you solve the case! =P Perhaps this could be a show to sell hollywood on? Each week our sleuth is given a scientific problem to solve, and we watch with baited breath as she discovers it's most intimate secrets! Hey, CSI is a big hit, so you just never know. ;)
Writing? Your thesis, or for fun? Whichever, here's to hoping you wear out many a more batteries in the process (assuming dead batteries = progress).
Perhaps you could go into work a little later, or leave early tomorrow?
"Peroxynitrite people" has such a exotic sound to it--makes me all tingly inside. I know a peroxynitrite person!!!!! heh heh

Date: 2002-05-14 11:02 am (UTC)Yeah. This area is so congested that people get aggravated over nothing, so the best thing to do is just blow stupid drivers off and not get upset. It was funny, my labmates thought the story was a scream... "You saw ROAD RAGE?" It was indeed funny but I wasn't going to stick around to see the resolution!
Writing for fun. It ought to be my thesis. Bad bad Arafel. :)
heh heh I'm not really on the peroxynitrite project, but my advisor says I am so that he can fund me out of the grant. :)

Date: 2002-05-14 11:21 am (UTC)Oh, Arafel SHOULD be writing thesis instead, but then that's not as much fun. Is this for Ocean Dreaming, or something else? Perhaps you are writing a story about a powerful sorceress… who decides to buy her friend a nice enchanted-- errr… jade mushroom one day. And---
*Arafel raises her hand in caution*
Umm... So how about those Nets!
Oh, ic. But you will always be a peroxynitrite person to me!
*Arafel shakes her finger*
"Still no jade?"
*Arafel shakes her head*

Date: 2002-05-14 11:36 am (UTC)Road rage... yuck. I usually curse wildly at people, but I try not to respond with my car. I've become quite a defensive driver since my friend had her brush with death last year in a road rage incident. They brought criminal charges against him, though I don't know what the outcome of the trial was.
Sounds like science is marching forward. That's great!
