Apr. 25th, 2002 05:29 pmTired. Tired, tired, tired and my day isn't over.
Taught lab today, and while it wasn't onerous, I had some severely pokey students who required a swift kick in the ass before they would remove themselves from lab. They did their questions and then I left like my ass was on fire.
There was one extra student in my section who was being especially pokey. He wasn't my student. I didn't bother to check his questions. He can pester his own TA.
Talked to Eddie for 45 minutes. Good kid, but dense as lead. He required an explanation of 1H NMR from the ground up, then on to chemical shifts and coupling constants, then on to how to assign the protons and report them.
I don't know why they haven't learned this stuff in class.
Then onto the lab report, which was a frothing gyrating hulk of wrong answers... this kid loves to write essays, so we went through and reworked every problem.
Soon we'll go out for Group Dinner for two ppl who are leaving, and my husband is coming. He'll see whether the bossman really has horns and a tail, so to speak. From my descriptions, hubby probably thinks that he does.
*clunk* Is this day over yet?

Date: 2002-04-25 04:37 pm (UTC)You have been one patient and kind TA today. If Eddie hasn't learned some lifesaving chem today nothing will ever teach him what he needs to continue his studies and what he ought to have picked up earlier. Whoah !
Hope the dinner will be nice and a little bit relaxing at the end of a loong day.
Isn't it too bad bossmen know how to hide the tail and horns when non grad students are present ? ;)

Date: 2002-04-26 07:42 am (UTC)Bossman did hide his tail and horns, and when I asked my husband what he thought of bossman, he said, "Oh, I liked him fine."
Re:
Date: 2002-04-26 10:22 am (UTC)Well, it's better to have all the kiddies come in at once and help them out then and there instead of spread out throughout the day.
>"Oh, I liked him fine."
Isn't that just typical ?
Only grad students know a bossman's true horn and tail nature.
O-o
Date: 2002-04-25 05:10 pm (UTC)The worst days are the ones that drag on and never seem to end....Hmm....maybe it's an irregularity of nature or somin?
Heh...Mushroom seems like a good idea..

Date: 2002-04-25 09:36 pm (UTC)Heh... I certainly know that feeling. I hope dinner went well! :)
How much more teaching is left? Hopefully not much! Classes are finished here, and graduation is tomorrow, for the grad students anyway. (A couple people in my class who finished in time are marching. Must be nice...)

Date: 2002-04-26 07:44 am (UTC)There's one more day of lab left, and it's just the checkout. There will be regrades of two lab reports and some more exams, but at least the footwork will be done.
