someones married their everyones
laughed their cryings and did their dance
(sleep wake hope and then) they
said their nevers they slept their dream

--e. e. cummings

stagnation and wish for a clean slate
to slip away from the tangled webs of interpersonal relationships
all it brings is jealousy and paranoia and the understanding that there is something lacking
to the self-centered it is ever a surprise when no one seeks them out
but it is not surprising, really

i have a wish for poetry in my soul
for the wellspring of creativity and the open senses that flood the awareness with reality
something more than a good vocabulary and the ability to appeal to the simple
but it's not there
the curse of the pedant
it's hard to be a visionary when you trip over things when trying to see the stars
bruised shins and a sense of futility

what makes people interesting?
what is that unnamable sense of charisma that draws others subtly
makes them like you
makes them want to like you

sleep wake hope and then
roll out of bed at 7 AM and run through the morning
showereatmakebedkissgoodbyeanddrive
what's the purpose and why does one bother when no one would notice if one just stayed in bed

scratch the surface but never dive in
approach the water and do you get wet
what arrogance have i
to think that my being is worth something

I like certain poets; most people will have someone they enjoy, but poetry as a whole... I dunno, I have simple tastes.

Thanks for saying so. I think I have a tiny flash of talent but it's not enough to actually do anything with. And it's pathetic compared to an awful lot of others.

Isn't writing a small part talent and a large part just going at it again and again to expand one's craft ? Isn't that what a lot of the advice books for new writers say ? I'd think that is correct advice too.

Writing and working with the craft takes time too and sometimes you're not in the life situation to take that time out. It's perhaps the biggest obstacles for writers; 1) getting time and peace (personal space) to sit down and write, access to writing exercises that force one to be creative and do various kinds of styles (and some feeback from professionals of course) and 2) not letting one's self confidence fail and get writer's block.

Maybe first step to like others and have others like one back is to like oneself err.. oneself.

I think you under-estimate yourself.
