Geekitude

Wow. *blows the cobwebs off LJ* Facebook has killed this journal.

But, maybe there's a reason for that. Facebook is for real life stuff, like baby photos and what I did last weekend. LJ is for geekery, and I haven't had a whole lot to geek out about in the last year or so, and there's been even less since the pooper arrived.

BUT!

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] maeveth, from whom I first found out that Laguna was going to be in Dissidia 012, I am having a happy fangirly time. I might even fic. It gives me faith in Life after Baby. Then again, I also have [livejournal.com profile] archaeologist_d as a role model. :)

:D I was just thinking the other day about the ol' Laguna/Raine fandom...

Despite having a "real job" and buying a house and generally being an adult for the last few months myself, I am ALL ABOUT having some ficcing, fangirling time again. Someday. Hopefully soon. And I agree - the geekery (except cosplay photos, in my case) is to stay off Facebook.

Ha ha, I was kinda hoping you'd appear out of nowhere and weigh in on Laguna's dorktastic appearance in Dissidia. :D And congratulations on the house! It's great to have a place to call your own.

Thanks! It is, though it's still so new to us that it sort of feels more like we're housesitting, and therefore I keep feeling like it's wrong to put up our own stuff on the walls... ;)

I still haven't played the first Dissidia, but in this one they're bringing in Laguna AND Kain - two of my very favorites ever! There actually has been some discussion of Laguna's inclusion over on Facebook, among some of the people I've met while cosplaying Final Fantasy characters... and one of them posted a video of Laguna fighting Sephiroth (hottest battle ever). And being like "Woohooooo!" all the time, because obviously it's great fun fighting a genetically engineered superhuman. XD Such a tremendous dork!

See, the whole thing about Laguna is that without him, the game was kind of flat. Now?

NOW it's a party!!

...Oh man. I saw the "Ragnarok Cannon" and was like "lololol best attack e... WTF LAGUNA WTF"

I'm slightly disturbed now.

But he's cute?

I only just picked the game up today -- and I've gotten like nowhere in it thus far -- but the guy is already a quote machine. Apparently Tifa's practicing her punches on him.

Fluently, at that.

Having a house carries its own set of headaches, as I'm sure you've discovered, but they're usually outweighed by having the freedom to do whatever you want with the space, including not having to hide your pets. :)

That Laguna vs. Sephiroth battle made me giggle. Whoever translated Laguna's lines obviously had a lot of fun with it.

*bows* I do what I can.

Everyone needs some of the party that is Laguna.

Unless they're on vacation. Or in a hurry.

In that case, I would say she might well be the unluckiest woman in the world.

I didn't play the first Dissidia. Thinking of skipping it and going right to LAGUNATIMES.

Dissidia is like Tekken - there's no real plot to speak of, and if you don't play them all, you're not really missing anything.

The first Dissidia is actually an unlockable scenario in the second, so technically you don't even have to buy the original. TWO IN ONE. WITH BONUS LAGUNATIMES.

How is the storyline in the second different from the first? Crystals, floaty goddess, fanservice... am I missing something?

From: [identity profile] maeveth.livejournal.com
The second storyline -- in addition to covering the newbies -- concerns the twelfth cycle of battles (the original is #13). I'm not far into the new storyline at all, but it's definitely darker.

I never got good enough at the original Dissidia to get to Chaos, so it's all news to me. ^_^;;

I'm a little afraid of what happens if JP turns out to be a geek too. I will be a bad influence.

Mostly it means you get to sing along with the good cartoon theme songs. So far anyway.

I've already got the "Thomas the Tank Engine" theme stuck in my head. SOMEONE SHOOT ME.

That does not count as one of the good songs, no.

Role-model! *blushes*

Definitely life after baby. I turned both my kids into geeks and they are loving it, too! I take them everywhere, esp. to the conventions and now they are conventioning on their own, going to anime cons and making costumes and such. And fic, you must write fic. It might take a while to carve out some time but it can be done.
