Iranian women stand up in defiance, flout rules

A young Iranian woman named Neda is gunned down in one of the most iconic images of the last week. Another walks down the street, defiantly showing off her hair and body in a revealing dress. And still another woman says she's not scared of paramilitary forces -- no matter how many times she gets beaten.

"When they want to hit me, I say hit. I have been hit so many times and this time it doesn't matter. I just want to help my brothers and sisters," says the 19-year-old woman whose identity is being withheld by CNN for her safety.

I am humbled by the courage of these women.

Absolutely. And where one stands up, another will follow - there's a whole generation who know better and want better, and that's why those evil old men in charge are doomed to fail. Maybe they'll win this time, maybe they'll beat enough people into submission for another 10 years, but when they grow old and die, the younger generation will still be there. It's just a pity they can't see that and let go gracefully, instead of having people shot in the streets.

This is truly inspiring. I admire their bravery, and hope they will not give up.

Speaking in my role of "Angry Moderate," I wonder how you feel about our president's reaction (or non-reaction) to this whole Iran mess. Especially since you took the time to post this article.

I assure you, this isn't a loaded question. I'm just curious.

I think that Obama is in a very delicate situation. For many years, the US has meddled and has been accused of meddling with Middle Eastern politics. We are a very convenient scapegoat when a scapegoat is needed. If Obama puts his fingers too deep into this situation, he could risk upsetting the movement that's coming from the Iranian people, which is where the change must originate. If he doesn't put his fingers in deep enough, then the US may look indifferent to the suffering. You want to show your support, but not so much that you're used as an excuse to rain terror upon the people you're trying to help. I'm not sure anyone can say with certainty what the US should be doing.
