Located a Wii for my dad for Xmas (mom wants to get it for him.) So, Wii-enthusiasts, I'm looking for some Wii game recommendations. Preferably, easy-to-understand party games. Some caveats:

My dad is 64 years old and does not know Mario from Mega Man. So, something like Super Smash Bros. is probably not his deal.

Same goes for anything that requires you to make a Mii, or whose primary attraction is friend codes and online play.

I'm thinking Boom Blox might be a good candidate, as an example. Any other suggestions?

Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection is pretty good. We got that for my mother-in-law one year.

While Mario Kart can be played online, it's not terrible as a single player game. Morgan plays it by herself all the time.

The new Animal Crossing game just came out but I don't know if that would interest him.

Raving Rabbids was pretty good...I don't know much about the new one though. I haven't heard anything bad about it...

Boom Blox is pretty fun. Same for Cooking Mama but, again, I don't know if that would fall into his interests...

Raving Rabbids has gotten a couple recs now, and it's silly enough that he might have fun with it. DAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

I would recommend extra controllers and controller accessories. We definitely get a lot of use out of having two controllers (even if it's only because we always forget to charge the batteries in the main controller).

That's another idea - rechargeable batteries. They do make rechargeable battery packs for the Wii controllers, but the one we bought ($20 at Target, came with two battery packs and chargers space for both), broke after about 6-8 months. We bought a regular AA battery charger + batteries and haven't had problems with that at all. Plus, it's great for when someone forgets to change the batteries in the DvD remote.

Game wise, WarioWorld/Ware/Whatever it's called was tons of fun, if weird and crazy at times. If you're Dad's still 13 at heart, like mine, he'll get a kick out of it. Otherwise, Wii Sports (which is usually included) is tons of fun and lets you get good use out of the Mii creator. I've heard WiiFit is tons of fun and really good exercise, but I've yet to come across $90 from the video game fairy to buy one for myself. :/

We are getting Dad a Wii bundle that has a whole bunch of accessories in it, but I'm sure there are some more accessories that he'll need. Thanks for the thought about rechargeable batteries!

That's the best title ever.

Hmm, Cooking Mama SEEMS kind of girly, but it is full of fun mini-games, so that's a possibility, especially if he likes cooking at all.

Dad and the kitchen are not friends, unfortunately. ^_^;

I'm thinking that might work well too!

Wario Ware Smooth Moves is the ultimate casual game. When you solve all the minigames, it unlocks even more games (like a darts game that's really fun).

I'll definitely check that one out!

Luckily the Wii has a good share of puzzle and old-folk friendly games.

How good is his eyesight? Puzzle Quest is fun and my 75-year-old dad enjoyed it, but the font is often very small and difficult to read.

Trauma Center is fun and requires very good eye-hand coordination.

Also, they have Madden games for the Wii, and I know you and your family like football. And there's a baseball game that I can't find online now, but it has cute chibi versions of real baseball players on the cover.

Does the baseball game allow you to swing the bat? That might be fun.

Which Raving Rabbids game, or all of them? I'm thinking this might be ideal, given your review. My dad can't put in contact lenses consistently, so getting him something that doesn't require brain surgeon fingers would be optimal.

I've only recently had much Wiixperience. Nephew got one when they first came out but a friend got one a couple of weeks ago. He has a game (made right here in Melbourne strangely enough) called De Blob which I think is fun. The world has been invaded by the Graydians who think colour is crime and have sucked the colour out of everything. It's your job as De Blob to roll around painting everything. Might seem kinda childish (& would definitely appeal to kids) but it's one of those games that gets a little more complicated as it goes on. You start out with simple painting tasks with a time limit, then they get trickier, then they add more obstacles...eventually you end up doing it while the Graydians are attacking you.

WiiSports are kinda fun too, though I've yet to figure out batting in baseball. Don't think I'm holding the controller at the right angle...or maybe I'm not sticking my butt out right? Wasn't any good at real baseball either!
