Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii! (gonads and strife)
Dec. 3rd, 2008 10:33 amLocated a Wii for my dad for Xmas (mom wants to get it for him.) So, Wii-enthusiasts, I'm looking for some Wii game recommendations. Preferably, easy-to-understand party games. Some caveats:
My dad is 64 years old and does not know Mario from Mega Man. So, something like Super Smash Bros. is probably not his deal.
Same goes for anything that requires you to make a Mii, or whose primary attraction is friend codes and online play.
I'm thinking Boom Blox might be a good candidate, as an example. Any other suggestions?

The new Animal Crossing game just came out but I don't know if that would interest him.
Raving Rabbids was pretty good...I don't know much about the new one though. I haven't heard anything bad about it...
Boom Blox is pretty fun. Same for Cooking Mama but, again, I don't know if that would fall into his interests...

Date: 2008-12-03 04:16 pm (UTC)That's another idea - rechargeable batteries. They do make rechargeable battery packs for the Wii controllers, but the one we bought ($20 at Target, came with two battery packs and chargers space for both), broke after about 6-8 months. We bought a regular AA battery charger + batteries and haven't had problems with that at all. Plus, it's great for when someone forgets to change the batteries in the DvD remote.
Game wise, WarioWorld/Ware/Whatever it's called was tons of fun, if weird and crazy at times. If you're Dad's still 13 at heart, like mine, he'll get a kick out of it. Otherwise, Wii Sports (which is usually included) is tons of fun and lets you get good use out of the Mii creator. I've heard WiiFit is tons of fun and really good exercise, but I've yet to come across $90 from the video game fairy to buy one for myself. :/

Date: 2008-12-04 02:14 am (UTC)How good is his eyesight? Puzzle Quest is fun and my 75-year-old dad enjoyed it, but the font is often very small and difficult to read.
Trauma Center is fun and requires very good eye-hand coordination.
Also, they have Madden games for the Wii, and I know you and your family like football. And there's a baseball game that I can't find online now, but it has cute chibi versions of real baseball players on the cover.

Date: 2008-12-08 10:27 am (UTC)WiiSports are kinda fun too, though I've yet to figure out batting in baseball. Don't think I'm holding the controller at the right angle...or maybe I'm not sticking my butt out right? Wasn't any good at real baseball either!
