Some of you might remember the post about Mr. Feets.

Sadly, Mr. Feets met a bad end - something bored into his chrysalis - and we were just devastated.

Today I went out to inspect my flowers, and there on the butterfly weed were THREE BRAND NEW FRIENDS chowing down on the seedpods.

LOOKY HOW TINY THIS GUY IS OMG ICKLE ANTENNAS

They're all monarch caterpillars, so I'm hoping that they fare better than poor Mr. Feets.

On the downside, there are caterpillar poopins all over my flowers. :/

Poor Mr. Feets! *sadface*

The photos of the new caterpillars are awfully cute, though! Shame they give me the whim-whams in real life.

I'm glad you're OK with photos! :) I'm not universally fond of crawly things either, but caterpillars can be cute.

I'm not sure how I could take care of the little guys! They seem to be doing OK - it's not that cold out yet.

Awww, I'm so sorry about poor Mr Feets. But it's nice that you now have a new set of little stripy parasites to munch through your plants :-)

Stripy parasites? D: Aw. Actually, I planted butterfly weed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_weed) just so that they would come to visit and use my garden to propagate themselves. :)

Yeah, I need to do some of that kind of thing myself. This year was the bathroom project, next year the garden. I'm going to have to get the professionals in to clear the enormous tracts of ivy growing everywhere. The previous owners left it to take over for twenty years....

Yay monarchs! We used to bring a few into the house in a jar to feed and watch as they did their magic thing.

After what happened to my last pet caterpillar, maybe I should have my husband build a butterfly house so they can pupate in peace.

Pupate in peace...is that on Mr. Feets ickle gravestone?

I took a bit of interest in monarchs as a kid. Their outfit just screams ‘look at me!’ They are very well travelled creatures, though I have no idea if their presence in Australia is their own doing or an accident or by design of butterfly fanciers. Probably the latter.

Supposedly, monarchs do get around, but I'd say that Oz is a tough flight for the little guys.

Goatheads don't sound even the least bit charming. :( Neither do locusts.
