The bugs have gone too far.

This morning, I went out in my garage, and heard the gentle sound of rain tapping on the window. This is a good thing, as we need some rain. I opened the back door to see the rain fall... and rain wasn't falling.

At the window, behind the blind, was a swarm of winged ants trying to get out.

AUGH.

I was in my bathrobe and slippers at the time, and husband had the nerve to ask why I didn't do anything about the ants. BECAUSE IT WAS DISGUSTING MAYBE? Besides, isn't it the job of the man in the house to take care of the bugs?

Also, Mommy and Daddy Purple Finch have made a nest in one of my hanging baskets among the geraniums. They have at least two eggs. I hope we can all get along, because like it or not, the geranium has to be watered.

My mom had that happen once in one of her hanging plants with a couple of sparrows.

And the answer is, no, you don't get along. Your choice is either let the geraniums die, or remove the nest. Because, if nothing else, when the eggs hatch, those little birdlings turn into poop monsters, and your planter will be so full of bird droppings that the plants will take a major beating.

Grumph. Well, we'll see how it works out. I don't want to depose the finchlings; I'm certainly not going to put them out of their nest, and I do have a Reserve Geranium.

From now on, I should probably remove nests.

Ewww on the ants! And I agree. Men should take care of those.

As for the birds, I'm sure they won't be happy with you watering the flowers.

That's what men are for, aren't they?

Oh well, too bad for birds. I'm trying to water the edges of the basket, away from the nest.

Hmm possibility of getting a birdhouse and moving the nest there? Although not sure about the 'if the birds smell people they abandon their stuff/offspring that smell like people' thing I seem to remember..

Moving the nest would be a bad idea - the parents would certainly abandon the eggs or hatchlings. I don't want to do that to the poor birdies. :(
