I discovered this weekend that there is not enough alcohol in the world to get me to sit through Star Wars Episode II. I'd heard it was bad, but wow - it was just that bad.
The only reason I made it through the whole movie was because I watched the RiffTrax version, and even then it was near thing. So much awful packed into one film.
(I am also curious to know how far you got before metaphorically flinging the movie across the room!)
Our experiment didn't last long - I was done after about five minutes. It was like watching a school play, and considering that all the main leads are considered fine actors, you just gotta pin this one on the director.
I've never been a big Star Wars fan, but my friend is, so he got me to watch the first pretty easily, but had to trick me to watch the second.
He almost got me on the third by trying to lure me in with the admittedly cool dogfight at the beginning but I stood my ground and made him put on Die Hard instead.
...actually, I was stuck in the movie theater because I went with my ogre and some friends. The only memorable parts were the Super Mario-esque factory scene, blatant fan service of Padme's jumpsuit getting torn into a crop top and low riders, and Yoda kicking ass at the very end. It didn't make me feel as actively ripped off as some other movies I've been unfortunate enough to see in the theaters, but yeah. Meh is right.
The one and only good thing about that movie was Badass!Yoda. The rest was epic suck. If anyone other than Lucas had directed it, it would have never even been released.
I watched that movie stone sober and remember almost nothing about it. My one distinct memory was, during one Padme/Anakin scene, thinking "That set looks really fake."

AND
2) How far did you get through it before calling it quits?
