Why is it that so many Sailor Moon cosplayers (specifically Usagi/Serena cosplayers) seem to have an undue amount of icons with their own face in 'em, usually photoshopped to look wistful/dreamy/whatever? Is there something about Usagi that attracts the narcissist, or are these folks (consciously or not) attempting to emulate the storied Madame Kou? From my (limited) memory of Sailor Moon, Usagi isn't the brightest bulb on the string, but I don't know whether the character is considered to have an unduly high opinion of herself.

Probably has more to do with the whole "star of the show" type deal you get in shoujo, but what's often conveniently forgotten is that the the chickie with the Super Duper Attack can't do jack shit without her supporting cast to beat up the bad guy to start.

hehheh I dont know the answer to that although Usagi doesn't have that high an opinion of herself. I mean she's bumbling, cant decide whether to eat more or go out on a date, does crappy at school and is kind of like..ehhh. I think she evolves ot be slightly better as the series progresses though.

I have seen several usagi cosplayers have very high opinions of themselves though (doesn't help when they're asked to lead panels which are basically for Cosplayfucks and other such judgemental stuff either I'd imagine...)

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing as your first paragraph. Usagi is not someone to look serious and thoughtful, in general. (And definitely not someone I'd want to emulate.)

If all the pictures of their faces looking wistful are while they're dressed as Sailor Moon... all I can think is that they wanted to show off the odango, and don't know how to look happy because they're emo myspace junkies? If the pictures are not all while they're dressed as Sailor Moon, and just face shots in general with them looking serious, then they're just emo myspace junkies. :D

There seems to be some unwritten cosplay rule that you have to make the emo face if you're going to be taken seriously. Bleh, says I. Cosplay is silly fun; you might as well grin like an idiot.

Yeah, I was at that panel at ANext, and... yeah. Attention's the name of the game.

There's not a whole lot to tell except that Madame Kou was the "guest of honor" at the panel and spent a lot of time talking about the popular Internet rumors surrounding her and how they are so omg not true. After a while, [livejournal.com profile] jaina and I got tired of the "ME ME ME" and left.
