teh weekend
Apr. 24th, 2006 09:30 amInteresting combination this weekend of Fun and Suck.
Since husband's friend Jeff was available to help us move furniture, we rented a truck and a storage shelter and planned the move for Saturday. I emailed my parents to let them know I was coming on Friday, didn't receive a response and didn't think anything of it. Then, on Friday, I learned in the morning that they had decided to go visit their friends in PA because one of them is recovering from surgery.
So, I got to spend my last night in my childhood home alone, packing up boxes. It was very unpleasant and I think I went through every box of tissues in the house.
The next morning, my parents called, and they claimed that they didn't get my email. It's possible, because the J&J server was having connectivity issues right around that time, so at least their absence wasn't intentional. Not that it helped much, honestly.
The move went very smoothly, and we were on the road by about 11:30 and had the shelter loaded by 2:30. I didn't get to take the sewing table, which I wanted, but it's just as well because it wouldn't have fit in the shelter. I wanted a bigger sewing table anyway, preferably one of those big wraparound jobs that take up half the room.
Husband spent the rest of Saturday afternoon napping while I sorted through the eBay-able stuff from my parents' basement. Most of it is not worth a whole lot, and I'm hoping to get at least a couple bucks out of my comic book collection even if it wasn't as interesting as I'd hoped. There are a few valuable Breyer horses, including a set of two that just sold for $175 from another seller on eBay, and I'm going to take my grandfather's stamp collection in for appraisal. Feel kinda bad about that, but it's going to go to waste otherwise, and I'm keeping the coin collection.
irenak was on the East Coast visiting from CO, so on Sunday I went to Mitsuwa and met her there along with the rest of the gang,
jaina,
fadingembers, and
pyrobovaphiliac. We had a really fun time, and I'm sure that we drew more than a few stares from the mostly-Asian crowd for laughing so loudly, but it was a good tonic after Friday night. We raided the supermarket and discovered that the sale of home appliances is prohibited in Bergen County on Sundays (but they sell booze on Sunday. Go figure.) I bought half the world's supply of Pocky and Meiji chocolate and other fattening treats, and then we snacked on some green tea mochi. The stuff for sale in the "flea market" section was largely uninteresting, but once Bleach starts airing on Adult Swim, there might be some goodies to pick up.
It was getting late after that, so I went home and did some more laundry. Husband and I watched the Justice League marathon on Boomerang for a while and then went out for Indian food at a place I hadn't tried before. Husband had also taped the F1 race for me, and we watched it afterwards, mostly in fast-forward. Ferrari managed to pull out a win despite being outclassed by Renault, mostly because it's very hard to overtake at Imola and Michael Schumacher is a master at blocking. Thrilling race, but it was shown on CBS so they cut out the podium ceremony and driver interviews. Oh well, we'll catch it on Speed in a week.
And that's the news.
