Luckily, I don't have to use them all the time. I need the glasses to see things far away, but it really only matters in the movies, in my living room (when I'm on the couch trying to read CNN from across the room), and when I need to read signs and stuff on the highway. The reading glasses just making reading (print and screen) a bit easier. If I read too much without them, my head starts hurting.
I think that since I've quit being a student, it's less than an issue. Before, it felt as though they were always getting worse. But once I quit, it seems that it's sort of leveled out.
I'm already not suited well for glasses - contacts were a godsend, given that I had Coke-bottle glasses before the era of hyperindex lenses. Oh well, down the hatch.
Ah, so you're sadly already acquainted :-( I know glasses don't suit me at all, but at least I only have to fight with finding a pair that doesn't make me look silly when it comes to sunglasses.
