I think this is the only meaningful post I make all week. :P

Week 3 of Let's Travel All Over the US landed us in Buffalo to visit our friends P&L, whom we haven't visited in roughly two years, largely because it's a twelve-hour drive total for about 24 hours of visit. Neither husband nor I were terribly interested in going because it's such a long trip, but I wasn't feeling sick enough to stay home (allergy season) and we had no other excuse.

It was a pleasant enough visit, but still - twelve hour drive, 24-hour activity time. Their three-year-old is very well-behaved and a nice little boy. We visited Whirlpool State Park and the Niagara Butterfly Conservatory, where you walk through an indoor conservatory and the butterflies fly all around you. I kept hoping one of the black butterflies with shocking-pink highlights would land on me for a photo op (hee hee, hell butterfly) but I had to settle for an orange one. Will try to post photos later.

We had dinner at home with P&L, where P was very excited to show off his steak-cooking prowess. It was... fair. We had some heated discussions over dinner, mostly concerning religion (P has Found God and has taken to it with the same fervor with which he embraces any dogma he favors at the time) and then we watched Revenge of the Sith. I was hoping it would be better than the other offerings in the series, but alas, the dialogue was cringe-inducing and the bombastic finish left me completely unaffected. (I will have to write a rant on that some other time.)

Home again on Sunday, in time to watch the second half of the Giants game. Tonight I have a pile of laundry to tackle and hopefully an earlier bedtime.

Oh, and I started reading Death Note. Woo.

It definitely was pretty, especially the big iridescent blue morphos flitting around. Sadly, when those sit still, they fold their wings, and we didn't get a phtoo.

A hearty "word" on the RotS disappointment-- the dialogue made me gape in horror.

Here's my review (http://www.livejournal.com/users/cinnamongrr1/199463.html#cutid1) of it. Be sure to check out the comments, it's pretty much universal that most of my flist loathed it.

What disappoints me most about RotS is the sheer wasted opportunity of it all. There were pieces that could have been woven into an amazing story, and instead it was a series of a kiddy movie, Dawson's Creek in space, and Bad Acting 101. I have my own version of eps. 1-3 I keep in my head, and I'm sticking to it.

It was 6 hours one way - not as bad as that. ^_^;

Indeed. The weekend would have been intolerable if Wyatt were a brat. I guess it helps that his mother is a psychologist who works with bad parents to improve their skills.

Oh, the Niagara butterfly conservatory's a good one. Lots of pretties, and a really nice environment.

I just started reading Death Note too. The first volume's got me :-)

Indeed. I was sorry we weren't there in the summer to see the outdoor butterfly gardens.

I'm a little leery of Death Note b/c I've heard grumpy things about later volumes, but it'll be fun while it lasts.

Yeah, I heard that about Death Note too. But it won't be the first series I've enjoyed to go downhill - I'll take what I can from it and then bail!

I used to read Death Note. Then I quit around Chapter 65. Something happened that really pissed me off.

I mean it really pissed me off. Really, really pissed me off. Because, as you'ev discovered, the story is so frickin' good when it starts out. Kinda gets weird in the second leg, but the pay off is worth it. Then the manga-ka screws the pooch, throws out the baby with the bathwater, and a trillion other cliches. Blah.
