Harry Potter is gay!

Reverend Graham Taylor, who penned the novel "Shadowmancer" which, like the tales of the famous boy wizard created by J.K. Rowling, centers on witchcraft and battling evil, got his marching orders after teachers accused him of homophobia.

"As for Harry Potter, well, he's not the only gay in the village," the former Anglican priest told children at Penair School in Truro, southwest England, referring to a catchphrase from the popular British comedy TV show "Little Britain."

Should 12-year-olds really be watching Little Britain? I've seen it, and it's terribly funny, but somehow I doubt most parents would consider it age-appropriate for preteen youngsters.

That having been said, the "only gay in the village" skit is hysterical.

What twelve-year-olds should be watching often bears little relation to what they actually watch XD. I suspect some aspects of it would bypass them completely, anyway.

Probably so, but I was thinking more that expecting a bunch of 12-year-olds to get the "only gay in the village" thing as a joke might be overstepping the age bracket.

Then again, I could just be an old fart who forgets what it is to be 12.

I think they probably catch more than their parents would ever think.

Do you have any problems with Little Britain? I have some US friends who practically need subtitles for some scenes, especially when the 'Essex schoolgirl' gets going. To be fair, half the joke there is that it is hard to catch what she's saying, but it's actually scary how much schoolgirl sense it makes when you catch the whole spiel!

I haven't watched Little Britain enough to give you a solid yes or no on the problems. The slang does give me trouble, but enough is understandable from context that it's still funny.
