*worry*

I already accept that I'm a hypochondriac. It's what happens when you read too many ominous articles from such qualified publications as Reader's Digest.

But when there's an intermittent sharp pain from the base of my throat down to the inside of my arm, I start to get worried.

And my doctor won't see me for a checkup until at least December.

I think I need a new doctor.

That's ridiculous. I can even get an appointment with my dermatologist, who's only at my location once a week, within a month, month and a half. December is ridiculous, especially since a checkup is not a lengthy procedure. I'd explore your options now because it's important to set your mind at rest if nothing else.

That's a ridiculous appointment queue even for standard checkups- though for that kind of pain, they'd probably be willing to slip you into one of their "it's not just routine, you !@#$%^&* lazy idiots!" slots much, much sooner.

If not, then definitely find a doctor with a more reasonable patient base. Sheesh.

Seconded. Mention the problem specfically, don't ask for a checkup/physical, and odds are you'll get in there much sooner. Tell them you suspect you have strep throat, they'll jump at the chance to sell you some antibiotics.

( I'm also a recovering (?) hypochondriac)

Oh, that's easy to fix! Just stop moving and/or swallowing.
