So far, in the Shinigami Cosplay Saga, it ain't the geometry that's the problem with the hakama. It's kneeling on the kitchen floor with the chalk, measuring segments over and over to make sure it all lines up.

My knees are killing me.

Thank god the kimono pattern is normal, because otherwise I'd be crying.

What pattern did you end up using? And yeah, hakama were designed to be measured and cut on gianourmous tatami floors. Sucks for those of us in carpeted 8x8 rooms!

I ended up using the Folkwear pattern, which is more accurately described as a template. They give you the measurements between segments, you draw the pattern on the fabric based on your height.

Tatami floors are not only larger than kitchen floors, they are made out of straw - far nicer on the joints than linoleum. ;_;
