If I were going in for kimonos, I'd go for more dramatic ones with vibrant colours. This one just seems a bit dull - so much of it plain, and very monochrome.
ah, i love kurotomosode. i own one too and i love love love it ^_^ i rather like this kimono that you're considering buying. it's subdued and elegant, not to mention that the few imperfections that it does have are almost unnoticible if not completely unnoticible. for the condition of the kimono and how much use you'll probably get out of it, i can't imagine that you would pass up such a good price! happy buying ^_^
I voted yes, too. I was going to counsel thrift, but then I realized having bought a new dress and shoes and at least three new manga, and all within the space of two days, I am the last person who should be blathering about spending wisely.
Buy! Spend money, if only so I can have some reassurance that I'm not the only person who buys things they have too many of already!
What motif does your kurotomesode have? They're always so elegant; pity that the only kind of thing they're appropriate for is a wedding or something like that!
I've been looking for a greyish kimono for a while. The price on this one is good, but I'm not 100% sold on it yet. Thanks for weighing in. :)
I was torn between the "how many do you have" option and the "you could do better" one. I agree that I think this one is a bit on the plain side. My answer also stems from the fact that I'm in the process of a major wardrobe overhaul myself. Much as I love my fake vintage t-shirts with my job's dress code I can't wear any of them during the week. So, really, I shouldn't be spending my much lacking cash on things that I only have the opportunity to wear once in a blue moon.
I guess my un-fun and boring point is are you actually going to be able to wear/use the thing? Or is it going to sit around taking up closet space? I have no idea how often one gets to wear kimono, myself, so perhaps you parade around in them on a daily basis!
Of course we aren't going to talk about the weird shit that *I* buy...
mine has mostly chrysanthemum, karabana (imaginary stylized chrysanthemum-like flowers) and taisho-period stylized waves (traditional stacked chevrons) with a handful of pine motif, ume motif, and grass motif. those several motives are all couched in gigantic fans - a motif in itself ^_^ the fans' edges and some karabana are outlined in gold embroidery while all other motives are painted with a gold outline. it is fully lined in white with pink right at the edges. it is a 5-kamon tomesode and the kamon is kiri (paulownia).
