Race is over and done with. I am looking forward to going home, where I can understand what people are saying to me.

Today we:

Went to the race in time to see the BMW Formula series, which is a fun race to watch. It's one of the junior F1 series, and the drivers are all about in their teens. It's fun because they all drive like maniacs, and that compounded with their inexperience makes for an exciting support race.

The Ferrari Challenge series race also took place this morning. People with a lot of money can buy a Ferrari 360 Modena. People with a LOT of money race them. Not only do you buy the car, you have to take care of whatever damage your car takes, and there was plenty. One of the drivers was a USAF colonel who had an amazing history - he was one of the hostages taken in Beirut. Anyway, the winner did donuts in the Hairpin - what is this, NASCAR?

The F1 race was soon after, and it was exciting. The Renaults took off like gangbusters, and they were easily the quickest in the field. However, whatever they did to the engines to make them so quick appeared to also make the cars unreliable, and both Alonso and Fisichella retired. After a bad start, Schumacher worked his way up into the top 5, and he was all over Jenson Button's tailpipe. It was a great battle until Button hit an oil patch and slid into the wall - crappy end for him. Very disappointing. Bunson's retirement required the pace car to come out and lead the field, and Juan Pablo Montoya squeaked into the pits. I'm still not sure what happened here, but apparently JPM left the pits when he wasn't supposed to, and then he bullied his way into a position on the field. Whatever it was, JPM got black-flagged, and his race was over. That left Schumi to chase Kimi for the rest of the race. Kimi fended him off for the win, but Barrichello made the absolute best out of starting from pit lane to make it a Ferrari 2-3.

We decided to walk the track after the race, even though the sun was out in full force after a pleasantly warm morning. A Simple Plan was playing on the other side of the Hairpin opposite where we sat, and husband wanted to avoid the crowd. Unfortunately, by the time we looped around the track, the concert was over, and it was a madhouse.

This evening, husband weathered an "I'm tired of looking in this goddamn Fodor's guide every time we want a snack" hissyfit, and we went to a swanky restaurant called Cavalli, on Peel St. About the same time we were finishing up dinner, a large cheer went up from downstairs. We didn't think too much of it until we went to leave, and I looked over to see a very blond man with spiky hair wearing a McLaren team shirt sitting at a nearby table. We didn't stop and stare, but I'm convinced that the blond man was Kimi Raikonnen.

Tomorrow we go home and go on diets.

Yeah, I know there aren't any other racing fans on my list - the entry is more for me to remember what we did than anything else. We did have a very nice time, thanks. :) No time for sightseeing, really. We spent all day at the track, and by the time we got back to the rooms and got cleaned up from the race, it was time for dinner.
