Nice to see an American driver back in F1. Scott Speed made his debut as Red Bull's third driver this weekend in Montreal, and he did a respectable job. Not the best out there, but not the worst; ended second practice early with a spin. One hopes to see him in a couple races in a few years.

(He's not related to Lake Speed, for those of you who followed NASCAR in the late eighties.)

Definitely think I'd better stick with F1!

At what point in that entry did I say I liked NASCAR? :)

Okay, okay. To be fair, I did like NASCAR before I got into F1. My dad was a big Dale Earnhardt fan, and I liked Dale too. Once he died, I wasn't that interested any more.

In a nutshell - NASCAR is a breed of car racing referred to as "stock car" racing. It's called "stock car" because the cars still bear some resemblance to a car you'd see on the street (hence, "stock.") Formula 1 (and Indy car) is a type of open wheel racing, where the cars are flat to the ground and have exposed wheels. It's all the same aim - go around the course faster than anyone else - but F1 is more an engineer's sport, and NASCAR is all about the show.
