Frustrating week. Talk about being star-crossed in the computer department.

I promised our friend Hideto that I would copy some Delerium CD's for him. and then...

First, it takes a long time to rip a whole CD's worth of songs. So, do it on my own PC. No problem.

Then, try to burn Delerium I already had ripped. Trouble #1: not enough 80-minute CD's left in my box. Argh. Tried to burn "Karma" and wasted the last one b/c parameters were wrong. OK, transfer MP3's over and try to burn "Poem," which is short enough to fit on the CD's available in the stockroom. Everything seems fine until...

Popped copy of "Poem" into the car's CD player and heard only silence. Uh oh. Turns out that the ASPI drivers were either configured incorrectly or didn't exist, so I can't rip on my own PC. OK, rip on the lab comp with the CD burner.

Ripped Poem - again. No CD's though. Merrily went off to CompUSA to buy more CD's. Happy day.

And then the next morning (today), I came in to find that the hard drive on the lab CD-burner comp had failed completely and will be out of commission for weeks.

*breaks down in frustration* Noooooo.....

Oh well, I'll buy my own CD burner. They go for about $130...will look tonight. *sigh*

That's really annoying, wasting CDs because of technical problems. That day would have driven anyone into annoyance. I know I would have been tempted to kick the CD burner. :) I usually blame the Swedish CD burner software if something goes awry.

Has anyone else had problems with the last songs on each CD (as the files are burned closer to the center of the CD and the CD radius gets smaller) get messed up because the burn speed seems to be increased ?

I haven't had difficulties like that - how odd! I've burned more than one CD to capacity, too.

Looks like I might soon be the proud owner of a Plextor 8/4/32. $150 sounds pretty good to me.

Cool !

You got that for a good price.

Have you seen there are combined CD/DVD burners out now ? They're expensive, though.

Hmm... the problem is probably caused by the faulty Swedish software of the burner.

Actually - I read somewhere that if you are using a high-speed CD burner with CD's of mediocre quality, you will have problems with the burn. Could this be your problem? If you are using a 12X burner, you have to use CD's rated for a 12X burner (but you probably knew that.)

The CDs I have used may have been of low quality although the price and label didn't indicate that (and rated for 12x).

I have even had the problem when burning at 8x (and 6x I think) and it's always the last songs getting messed up so I suspect it has something to do with the software controlling spin speed

Thanks for the sound advice though
