I admit to having trouble with the bitter chocolate you Europeans are so fond of, like the superdark Lindt chocolates. American chocolate is tailored to American tastes, and despite having superior stuff available, most Americans will like Hershey best every time in blind taste tests.
you are the first American I have ever heard praise American chocolate. It's not a question of 'dark' versus sweet - i'm a big fan of milk chocolate, actually.
I just don't like eating carnuba wax when I've handed money over for chocolate.
I'm afraid saying 'Most Americans' like something or other to anyone outside the USA is pretty much an anti-recommendation. Especially when it comes to food.
Hey now, I didn't say *I* liked Hershey's best! *grin* Give me Lindt any day over a Hershey bar!
And yes, I'm fully cognizant that in many things, Americans have no taste. Trust me, I wouldn't be holding up American confectionery against the masters of the art in Belgium and Switzerland.
