Arggghhhh!
Oct. 4th, 2001 01:19 pmI did it AGAIN!
Never content to maintain a state of physical health, I was bopping across Nassau St. this morning after obtaining an obscenely large bag of candy with which to bribe my labmates when I mis-stepped up the curb and screwed up my foot again.
This is nothing new. It must be an October thing.
Oct. 1999 - subway platform, high-heeled black boots, on the way to New York. One mis-step and oops! off to the hospital! Crutches (didn't use), athletic bandage (did). Two months later, no healing (surprise surprise) so yours truly was outfitted with an air cast, a large boot that holds the foot immobile.
Oct. 2001 - Off to the health center (at least it's free... *sigh*) and back in the air cast, the same one I wore two years ago as a loaner. Probable soft tissue tear in the weird part of my foot that has two bones instead of the one bone that most people have. Oh joy. As I write, I'm icing the affected area. Guess it's a computer day! (awww, too bad.) :)
Cons to the cast:
It looks dumb.
You walk funny.
It looks really dumb.
People give you sympathetic looks (look somewhere else dammit!)
Pros to the cast:
Parking passes for right next to work. Yay!
If you go to the football game, they wave you right on in to the handicapped parking.
MUCH better than crutches.
The doc suggested that at some point I might want to think about having the bones fused. Riiiiight. No thank you, I'll skip that lovely surgery and recovery.
