I'm pretty sure it's both. Also, Fifth Moon is one of the defining angsty moments for Meryl especially--there can be no doubt that she is utterly, crazy in love with him, and I think it's when she realized it, too; when she was losing him.

I have to say that I do like that "oh shit" moment she has when she starts yelling at those random people dissing Vash.

Poor Meryl - she's already broken-hearted that he told her to get lost, and then the letter comes in to tell her that she's got no justifiable reason to go looking for Vash any more. (Meaning, in a way, that she has to face up to wanting to tag along with him for personal reasons, rather than being able to safely blame it on the job.)

There needs to be more gapfic.

Oh, yeah, I love it too. Her feelings just come bursting out. Meryl just gets a supremely raw deal here. That bastard broke her heart and the worst thing is he had a good reason. I think Meryl's come to terms about wanting to find him and shag him blind for her own reasons by the time they go back out after him--gotta love that little grin in her locker mirror.
