Check engine light is on in the Passat again. My husband is writing up a letter to VW claiming that our car is a lemon. This causes me great Otakon anxiety, since the car may or may not be ready for the 7th. *sweatdrop*

On the up side, rentals are a possibility.

It's such a pain in the ass. The car has been in for the check engine light three times in as many months. I don't pay for it because it's under warranty, but if it wasn't, the cost of repairs along with the monthly car payment would be worth a Mercedes. I really don't want to get rid of the Passat because it's such a pretty car, but my Acura wasn't nearly this much trouble. I don't know whether to blame VW or the federal government's emissions restrictions, but there are an awful lot of new cars out there and I highly doubt that THEY have to schlepp into the dealer every month to replace one of the 220+ things that can go wront with the car.

The Anna Williams outfit is coming along nicely. My Big Accomplishment of the weekend was learning how to install a zipper, albeit not very professionally. Putting the zipper into the side of the pantsuit was another story. It took me three tries to baste it in properly, and then I forgot that I'd used a different stitch in the seam at the bottom of the zipper. So, when it came time to open the seam, I ripped big holes into the seam allowance. @_X Fortunately, it was fixable, though that seam looks a little funny. No helping it.

Up next - make fur trim, sew fur onto gloves (phew, gloves I bought already) and make hat. Make armbands and cheat at necklace. Make matching bag out of scraps (perhaps.) Go Go Kenmore!

I finished Neon Genesis Evangelion over the weekend. Comments:

The amount of Kaoru X Shinji fics out there must be staggering. (Randy: "I knew that Shinji kid was gay!" --This Is Otakudom)

Couldn't they just have stuck with the Newhart ending to the series? I could have lived with that.

On a more serious side, I think I recognize a lot of the elements of nonduality as [livejournal.com profile] fireceremony has patiently explained to me over the years in the last two eps. I would have to watch them again to have it really sink in, but if I didn't know about nonduality, the end would have made no sense at all. As it was, the end was very provocative - a magnifying glass placed on one human's soul.

At the end of it all, I do feel bad for Asuka. My favorite character (of the kids) remains Rei.

Ritsuko and Gendo? That's just foul. He does seem to get all the chicks, though. Must have something... special about him.

I now understand why the Eva fans at our Anime Weekends were just about peeing their pants at "This is Otakudom." "Hi! I'm Marty!" "Hey, Eddie? When we get to the con, see if you can pick up some decent wall scrolls for the office!"

That's about all for now.

I thought it was a better brand too. We're worried that they'll refute the claim since the car has more than 18K miles on it now, but we'll see.

One way or another, I don't think it's the car I'll be driving to Otakon... goddamnit. AGAIN! AGAIN! Which is the whole reason we took your Accord last year! *is a little crazy right now*

Nissans are good cars, indeed. However, if I was going to get another Japanese car, it would probably be a Honda or an Acura. They get great gas mileage, too. My old 1990 Integra was a terrific car until its last days, and I remember it fondly. (cried my eyes out when we traded it in, but that's another story.)

Heya -

Actually, the movies make it quite clear that Shinji likes girls (too?). If you haven't seen 'em, I'll just shut up from this point on.

Another thing - I've decided with the "get you something cool for helping us out" option. Since I'll actually be in Japan in a month, let me know what it is you might want back from El Land-o del Rising Sun-o.

Nope, haven't seen the movies yet. ^_^ Soon.

I thought you were going to Taiwan? What prompted the change?

Japan is on the tail-end of the Taiwan trip. I may also jump a junket to Hong Kong.

I hadn't watched anime in a while and NEON GENESIS is what finally got me back into everything. It's such a great series:)

Rei has always been my favorite character in the whole series, especially the scene where Shinji falls on top of her in her apartment and you have that awkward moment between the two of them.

It is a great series. I can see why everyone likes it.

*grins* That is a funny moment. Shinji's going nuts and Rei doesn't appear to care all that much.

I do hate to say that in the latest quality rankings Volkswagen dropped to way below average (almost as low as Kia if I remember). So I don't think your problems are that uncommon.

Really? -_-;;; What rankings are you referring to? I'd like to see them.

JD power and associates, let me find the link:

http://money.cnn.com/2003/07/08/pf/autos/bc.autos.durability/?cnn=yes

It is actualy above kia, but below Hyndai and izuzu.
I will stick with my GM (as good of quality as BMW, and subaru).

VW's = EVIL!

Don't get me started on VW's. You probably remember all the "fun" stuff that went on with my little bug before we got rid of it. When I was hunting through Consomer Reports buying guide for cars, it was rather surprising, and yet not surprising, to find that in all the years they'd been making the New Beetle, it sucked in the reliability factor. I think I saw that it was unreliable in other models, too.

I flat out ADORE my Honda CRV. She's cute, perky, comfortable, roomy, and easy to afford. We also have my old '89 Honda Accord, which is pushing around 280,000 miles at the moment, and still going strong. My Dad's old '89 Accord had over 300,000 miles before it finally keeled over, and it's surprising to me that it lasted that long because my father is NOT easy on cars.

"Hi! I'm Marty! I'm a film maker!"

*sigh* I wish I'd known you when I bought the car, because I might have reconsidered. Damn it. Well, there could be an Acura or a Honda in the future, and then we'd both be happy Honda ex-VW owners.
