Went to my meeting last night to discover that in my first week of trying, I've lost 4 pounds. Yahoo! Yes, it's mostly water weight, but still. My jeans fit better. Only 11 more to go, and then 10 after that.

But that wasn't the best part of the evening!

No, nothing obscene...

The library where the meetings are held had a free book rack, and there I found two treasures: The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub, and a huge anthology of classic vampire tales! Including the seminal Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu and a Lovecraft tale! There's also a story by Tanith Lee that is absolutely incandescent. I wish I had a tenth of her talent.

And they were both FREE! Yay!

sorry, just gloating. :)

What a great surprise ! :)

Hopefully the books will bring many hours of reading fun and tons of inspiration. It's always fun to read books by authors whose style of both entertaining and technically good.

Have fun !

She's an LJ user, one of my best friends, and I reckon that once she gets back from holiday she'd love to know that there's another lover of that story out there ^_^

I quite liked it but I admit it, I'm more of a modern mainstream vampire fan >< *taps hand*

yeah.. I was standing there in line for my registration, and there was the cart. Of course, I can't not look at books, and I saw that one right away. Then there was that little sign that said, "free!" The meeting was a waste. I read the whole time. :)

thanks for the link - of course, I have to read the story first! :)

I'm more into folklore, so the mythological vampires are of greater interest than Anne Rice's creations.

Carmilla is a classic. I love it. While I do read Anne Rice's books, the horror of the vampiric state only seems preserved in the old stories. I hope you enjoy all tales you have. It's good to get past the undead glamour occasionally. :)

You are so right about getting out the glamor for a while SE !

I've only read the start of Carmilla and to be honest, it creeped me out... :)
