For 15 years - no exaggeration - I have been looking for this piece of music ever since I heard it at the Baltimore Seaquarium on a class trip. Thanks to the classical music station, I finally know its title and composer. Perhaps ironically, the piece is titled "Aquarium."

Aquarium - Camille Saint-Saens

The same composer also wrote "Danse Macabre." This one ought to be familiar. It's meant to evoke Death playing the violin in a graveyard to dancing skeletons. According to the liner notes, the composer's mother fainted upon hearing it for the first time.

He also wrote the Symphony for Orchestra and Organ Power.

Just kidding. But he did write a symphony using a lot of pipe organ. I remember playing it at the University of Houston.

Sounds interesting. I tried to download them, but both links returned
"server not found" error. Maybe later then. :)

I got an empty image holder, which has happened to me before at other sites for some reason (maybe an anti MP3 thing?). But if you do a right-click and save as, it seems to work that way. Odd...

I really like that Aquarium song, though part if it sounds a lot like "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy."

But nothing like finding a song/movie/book/etc after that many years.

I tried that and got the server error. I have to do the right-click trick with everything I try to download
as for some weird reason I no longer get the "save as" dialogue if I just click on the download, it'll just
load it to some temp folder and open it right away. x_o

That is odds... If you still can't download, I can email to you. ;)

Hmm... It only happens to me on some sites, and it seems to be MP3s mostly. I click on the link and an empty image holder shows up on blank page (but no error message), so I have to go back and do the right-click & save to get it to actually download.

Yay! I love Saint-Saens. When I was a kid, I saw a cartoon that featured all the music from Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals, and re-discovered it on an old vinyl album in my parents basement when I was in high school. "Aquarium" is one of my favorites, too. "Fossils" was my favorite when I was little though. :)

Have you heard his "Introduction And Rondo Capriccioso" for violin and orchestra? *gush* I can post it later if you'd like to hear it!

I didn't know that you played the organ! It's such an impressive instrument.

Damn it all, I forgot to ask my friend whether she brought Organ Power! with her at Xmas...

Right... both of them have a celesta in them, I think, which produces a very characteristic sound. Of course, they weren't written by the same person. :)

I wish you luck. I know how it feels to be on a Quest for something where all you have is a little snippet of the tune... strange that you can't find it even though you have the title of the piece.

Hah, I didn't even know that was a cartoon. To think, "Aquarium" was sitting under my nose the whole time in the guise of Bugs Bunny.

No, I haven't heard that! Post away, I'd love to. :)

Oh, I didn't play organ for that piece - I was a violinist in that symphony.

Damn, I haven't touched an organ in ten years...should really work on that...

Aquarium is featured in a movie, just can't remember which one. "Nightmare Before Christmas" or "Edward Scissorhands" ? At any rate the tune is very familiar.

Excellent selection this week. Such familiar music. It's great to listen to it in it's own right and put a name to it rather than just background somewhere.
