I've seen the ads in Shonen Jump as well. Every kid will be screaming for head protectors, and the streets will be overrun with Narutards. As if we don't see enough of them at cons.
I've always considered Naruto to be anime's response to HP fandom-wise (or I did, at least, until I discovered FMA fandom and tore my eyes out in a desperate fit of self-protection) although admittedly, I haven't seen the pairing wars half as often. Which, yes, insane. *g*
(That said, oh the wank when the anime was licensed was beautiful. People left and right, complaining about OMGN00BZ and despairing about how saturated the fandom would be with stupid people and preteens and kids who couldn't spell and it killed me. YOU GUYS, YOU'RE SO FUNNY.
I like to think Bleach fandom would rejoice if the anime were to be licensed.)
It depends on who licensed it. I used to actually like when ADV licensed anime...but they're slowing their turn around down ALOT lately. (It was well over a year from the time they licensed Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu! to the time they ANNOUNCED the English cast list)
Good grief, yes. They released the first DVD of Princess Tutu back in, what, January? And months went by before they put up a notice of indefinite delay on the next. Not nice, fellas! I used to adore you!
It's pretty much par for the course to go omgnot4Kidsplz, so I'll skip over that. *g*
I do know that the entire series of Tutu has been dubbed (you can watch episodes on certain cable pay channels, though I myself haven't), so I'm confident the DVDs will be out some day. But I am sad it's taking this long. Maybe if they aired it and audiences watched it there would be a push for the DVDs. Then again... I have no idea what channel/programming block they'd air it on. It kind of defies categories... it seems like its aimed young, but at the same time there's bits of mature stuff in there too. And it's so positively weird. If I had my way it's air on adult swim or a very late Toonami time slot, simply because I'd rather not see it cut. Although, what would they cut, really? Cause there's only really one scene with strong questionable implications (Rue & Mytho, naked, feathers), but sometimes there's all these subtle implications, like with Fakir/Mytho... how do you edit something that vague? And yet at the same time, it may be vague but you can't really ignore it either. Tis quite a quandry. I'd put it on AS, though, just because they need more weird, funny, inspired anime to liven up their schedule.
If it went to 4Kids, I'd punch something. They'd suck the life and romance and magic right out of PT. They'd try to make it less weird and dark, and focus on the magic and flowery bits. But that'd suck the soul out of the show because the weird dark subversiveness is the soul of PT. They'd make it about ballet, when actually its about classic fairytales and storytelling.
Ah, see, here I must argue. Yes, both series are very lengthy, but there is a crucial difference between Naruto and Inuyasha. Namely, stuff actually happens in Naruto. People age, grow up, grow apart. Story arcs begin and end. Villains are defeated, people die. Whereas with Inuyasha the characters are stuck in a constant limbo, and short of Naruku creating another minion or Inuyasha getting a new attack there is no change, no resolution, no anything. Don't let the length fool you--these are two very different shows.
(Just the humble opinion of someone who's seen both series ^_^;)

Damn. Now I'm tempted to camp out in front of the tv and wait for the commercial to air again so I can see it.

Argh. They're pronouncing it differently from me. Argh. Well, I'm not going to change my pronunciation. I'm stubborn like that.
Naruto's voice is the line "What is this?" You can't really get much out of it.
