The easiest way to tell is when the partially-shaven scruffy-lookin' space pirate guy starts ending sentences with "arahen", and lots of cut-off sounding "n'da yo" bits. Which you probably don't notice, but is what makes Wolfwood so fscking sexy to my ears. Ah, gutterpunk accents, I heart you so. I can't read you worth a damn, but I heart you.

Did you try Chrno Crusade? Major role as a hot blond priest who isn't quite XD. The show starts off looking like it's going to be all fluffy and stuff, and then ends up not. It really surprised me by how good it became.

Random question...I want to do death god cosplay. Any idea as to the level of difficulty such a costume would entail? This is, of course, based on the theory that I develop some sort of sewing skills in the next month.

Word, word, wordity word word! (Thankfully the manga is not at all like that and so much better.)

The kimono itself would not be too hard, but the amount of cloth required will push the price up. You want a nice heavy cotton that has an attractive drape, as the costume itself is not fancy and needs to rely on fabric to stand out. The kimono will have to be lined with white fabric for contrast, and it should be about knee-length to fit into the hakama.

I have never sewn hakama, so I have no idea what to tell you there. I can't tell whether the Death Gods wear divided or undivided hakama. Again, a lot of fabric required, and it must be pleated to fit into the waistband. The pleats look large and not too hard to do, but you might want to read up on how to sew pleats before you attempt it.

As for the Death Gods' surcoat (I'm guessing you want to do that lady you showed me) I would look for some kind of pattern to work with.

Folkwear (http://www.folkwear.com) does sell a hakama and a kimono pattern. Simplicity also sells a kimono pattern that is very accurate; if you watch the sales at Joann Fabrics (http://www.joann.com), you might be able to find it for as low as a buck. I do not have the pattern number handy, but I can give it to you later if you email me to remind me.

I would rate this costume on a Novice level, on a scale of Beginner, Novice, Journeyman, Expert.

Hakama are evil to sew. Evil evil evil (although having a pattern to work from might help). The backboard is such a pain!
And rather than purchasing a single pattern for making kimono, I'd get a book that includes a bunch of different styles, and how to put in a liner, how to hem, etc. (I' can't think of the book title right now, dammit.)

A-men to having a book, absolutely! Simplicity puts out a book titled sth like "The Best Sewing Book Ever," and it's widely available in fabric shops. I also have a Vogue book, and it's helpful. Would never have been able to deal with a zipper, otherwise.

But, patterns have their place - if you have neither the time nor the skill to make something from scratch, you get a pattern and then you look at the book for how to use it.

While being vague enough not to spoil anyone, I really didn't like the ending because I thought the actions of Rosette were so very out of character. Also, there were so many plot-questions never resolved that should have been, but it seems as though Gonzo just got lazy and decided to be unclear and foreboading rather than make actual sense in their storytelling.
