Date: 2005-06-17 02:02 am (UTC)I have never sewn hakama, so I have no idea what to tell you there. I can't tell whether the Death Gods wear divided or undivided hakama. Again, a lot of fabric required, and it must be pleated to fit into the waistband. The pleats look large and not too hard to do, but you might want to read up on how to sew pleats before you attempt it.
As for the Death Gods' surcoat (I'm guessing you want to do that lady you showed me) I would look for some kind of pattern to work with.
Folkwear (http://www.folkwear.com) does sell a hakama and a kimono pattern. Simplicity also sells a kimono pattern that is very accurate; if you watch the sales at Joann Fabrics (http://www.joann.com), you might be able to find it for as low as a buck. I do not have the pattern number handy, but I can give it to you later if you email me to remind me.
I would rate this costume on a Novice level, on a scale of Beginner, Novice, Journeyman, Expert.

Date: 2005-06-17 02:25 am (UTC)And rather than purchasing a single pattern for making kimono, I'd get a book that includes a bunch of different styles, and how to put in a liner, how to hem, etc. (I' can't think of the book title right now, dammit.)

Date: 2005-06-17 04:22 pm (UTC)To be honest, I've learned to live with anime that doesn't wrap up all the plot questions at the end - so few of them seem to bother.
