Lá fhéile Pádraig shona daoibh!

If I eat one more thing tonight, my stomach is going to explode.

My in-laws came up for St. Patrick's Day to visit with us and to drive around some of the areas where we are looking at houses. We went out to Mannion's, one of the local Irish-themed pubs, to have lunch before driving around Branchburg. It wasn't anything new for husband or me, but they are excited for us and want to be a part of our home-buying experience, so it was nice to have them along.

I decided to make a big Irish dinner for everyone - lamb stew, soda bread, oatmeal cake, the whole nine yards. The cake was beyond frustrating. I was using a recipe from an Irish cookbook that's usually quite reliable, and it said to bake the thing at 350F for 30 min. So, last night, I did just that, intending to put the topping on later. The cake was underdone and the center fell in. Crap. I tried it again today, letting it bake 10 minutes longer, and the freaking thing STILL wasn't done, so I got mad and kicked up the oven temp to 450 and let the thing roast.

And wouldn't you know it, the cake was divine.

We did watch a bit of the parade, and I called my uncle to see how he was doing on St. Patty's. He sounded tired, but he was his usual self: rantrantranthowaboutthemgiantsokiloveyoubyebye. Because there's just no crying for him, despite the prognosis, you just have to laugh and say "Okay, Uncle John."

Right now I'm on Wakeup Duty, because the first F1 race of the season is tonight, starting at 10:30PM. Husband is snoozing on the couch in anticipation. I'll probably watch about the first ten laps and fall asleep. XD Sadly, the driver I'm interested in now that Schumi has retired had a gearbox problem and will start 16th.

Hope everyone else had more beers than I did (two.)
