weekend recap
Oct. 27th, 2003 08:30 amIt's always nice to spend a weekend at home instead of being out traveling to parents' houses etc.
Friday night we actually went out to see a movie *GASP*. On the strength of word-of-mouth recommendations, we went to see Kill Bill, and we both like Quentin Tarantino and we both liked Pulp Fiction, so we expected a good time. However, I have to say that I agree with the New Yorker on this one - the violence is cartoonish and way over the top, and in the end, there isn't much substance. Husband said that it followed the lines of the stereotypical kung fu movie, only with a lot more blood jets. I was put off by the whole thing and didn't watch the fighting after a while. He'll have to see part 2 on his own.
Saturday was Proposal Day and so I had to clean the dust off the top of the two foot high stack of journal articles on the corner of my desk and look for the ones concerning photodynamic therapy. I think I have a better idea now of where the proposal is going. The idea is still pretty flimsy, but the art is in making it sound good, not in it actually being good. Whatever. It needs to be over and I want to have the damn thing drafted by the end of the week.
We chatted again about taking Italian together, and the prospect of being able to do fun things like take up another language is almost too good to think about now. That was the one not-so-good thing about majoring in science, we agreed - the amount of classes concerning humanities, literature, and other subjects that are the stuff of wit are more of an annoyance to the engineering or science student who needs to spend most of his/her time banging out lab reports and design projects. The fluff classes are an easy A and enjoyable to take, but the time sink can be considerable and outweighs the stimulating aspects of the class.
And so, once we're done with schooling, my husband and I want to go back and take a couple of those classes (like language classes) that aren't taxing and keep the brain moving. I'm looking forward to it.
My husband's defense is the 14th of November and I am perishingly jealous. My own damn fault; I could have graduated first if I wasn't so damn lazy.
Anyway. Read some more on Sunday and watched the football game, on and off. Against all odds, the stinky old Giants pulled a win out of somewhere, when everyone (myself included) thought they were going to get thrashed. The dumb Eagles won too, so my mother and I could only sing the Song of Victory instead of the Song of Great Victory, but heck - we haven't sung the Song of Victory in weeks so we'll take it. Husband and I went out to dinner, and that was nice too. He spent the day fixing our door and spent Saturday running the satellite cable into the attic. It's so handy having a Man around.
I'm thinking about reviving one of my old journals to separate the public face from the private face. It seems like a lot of what I write here is silly and not-really-me. Will have to think more about this.
