moonwiseYou know? It was a good birthday this year. It really was.
It turned out nicer than I expected, and anyone who knows me at all knows I don't like having a big fuss because I have a complex about getting older. Still, it's nice when people remember that you're having a birthday, though I never take offense when they don't because I'm shit at remembering that myself.
I'd asked for a couple things this birthday, mostly a leather jacket and potentially replacing some of the jewelry I'd lost on our way back from Maine. (STILL want to know what happened, there.) And I wanted to go out to dinner without my parents asking to bring along their boat friends.
So, for the first time in almost four years, my parents came to visit me at my apartment. I don't encourage visitors who have been out of college for a while, since the place still has that grad-student feel. Books all over, crap piled on top of the computer, you get the idea. But, the place was clean, and pretty tidy (for us.)
My mom and I watched a bit of the football game, which is a fun treat since we cheer very FIERCELY and then tell the Giants how much they stink. After the first plays of the game (a debacle), we went out to the mall and my mother spoiled me by getting me my leather jacket, plus some new work clothes, a little Halloween candle, and a gooooorgeous full-length black coat with furry trim. (well, we're going halfsies on that last, since it was mucho pricey even on sale.) Then we came back and saw something AMAZING.
The stinky old Giants were up 20 - 14!
And then they WON!
And there was great rejoicing.

We got dressed for dinner and avoided a great crisis when my mother forgot the dress she was supposed to wear under a long jacket. She thought she could get away with just the jacket, but truth was that she looked like a flasher. Thankfully, my mom is skinnier than I am, and I loaned her a very nice little black dress that fit well. It was such a funny change to be loaning my mother clothes in a pinch, instead of the other way around.
Then husband decided that he wanted to give me his present because he wanted me to wear it, and I initially refused because I wanted something to open on my actual birthday. He was sad and then I relented and opened it. He gave me a lovely little white gold dragonfly pin (we have a thing about dragonflies) with diamonds down its back.
Was a little bummed about that because I thought I wouldn't have anything to open on my birthday, but more on that later.
My parents and my husband and I then went out to dinner at the Limestone Cafe, and my dad cracked a 10-year-old bottle of Silver Oak cab that he'd been saving for our graduations. He also paid - so nice of them to do that. It was yummy and we got dibs on the last two pieces of pear frangipane tart.
Today I didn't expect much; no one at work really knew I was having a birthday, so there weren't any cards or anything. Husband got home a bit late, but then he cooked me a delicious dinner of pork chops with rosemary potatoes and grilled carrots. We finished off the 2000 Mondavi cab while we were at it (whooo!)

I started watching the football game - that will be my last present, if the damned old Eagles lose - and then husband announced that cake was on the way. It was kind of pathetic, because he'd put 29 + 1 candles on the thing, and it lit up the whole hallway. The heat from the candles melted the chocolate on top of the cake, for godsake.
And then, he presented me with a bag and told me to open it. I was so happy - a present to open on my birthday! And inside, there was an adorable stuffed kitty, a teeny fake Burberry bag stuffed with Lindt balls, and a gift certificate to Sephora. And a cute card with ladybugs on it.
So, it's been a really nice birthday. I'm so lucky to have someone like my husband, who takes good care of me and loves me and spoils me rotten.
Now, I have to go watch the game and sit with my kitty. ;)

It's good to see/hear you had a good birthday in nice company and had some cool presents!

Just checked out Samurai Champloo and now I'm a certified fan! Thank you so much for sending! This is the coolest samurai anime I've seen since Samurai Deeper Kyo. Fabulous stuff! Mugen reminds me of Spike Spiegel. The other guys is just cool.
