Our family was thrice blessed today. Someone was looking out for us.

My uncle decided not to go to a conference at the World Trade Center because he did not feel well.

My cousin John Paul switched his transcontinental flight from one of the doomed Boston-LA flights to one that flew out of Newark.

My cousin Chris, who did work at the World Trade Center, had come into work to his office on the 60th floor. He left his desk and went downstairs for breakfast. While he was having breakfast, one of the planes hit. Chris was able to get out in one of the elevators.

Words cannot describe the sheer thankfulness I feel right now.

If I had lost any of my family... especially Chris, my childhood pal and friend and playmate.. I think I'd go find the perpetrators and kill them. Slowly. In great pain.

I shook and burst into uncontrolled sobs of relief when I heard from my husband that Chris had been in the building but he got out. So many people didn't. To think that he might have been one of them was more than I could stand. I am going to be very glad to see him this Sunday...

I'm glad your cousin is safe. I can't imagine what it would be like if he didn't make it out okay.

Agreed !

Good to hear your family members which were in NYC or were supposed to be there yesterday didn't go and weren't hurt in the terrible events. Very good indeed.

I do hope you're all doing ok...

I'm just glad no one of the mod group got affected directly...

I'd like to chat with you on ICQ today but I think I'm going to go home early today, got a cold over night and I just want to head home and zzzz.

Thank goodness!

Events like this seem horrifying enough - and some react with detachment/disbelief and some break down and cry.

It is all the more horrid, however, when there is a personal connection. I'm so glad to hear that your family was saved from tragedy.

I can't help but think of the...thousands of other families that weren't. This thought fills me with unbearable sadness and frustration at the state of humanity.

Amazing...

It's really strange how these things work sometimes, isn't it? The most interesting part seems that it's never just a one time happening here, but that so many factors come so perfectly together as to make you really wonder about whatever is... well, "up there"...

it really was scary to think that I came so close to losing them. Makes you all the sadder for people who did lose family..

Me either. When my husband talked to me about Chris being in the building, it really hit home for me. I hadn't thought up to that point that he was in any danger, and when it turned out that he had been in danger, then I really got upset.

Thanks for your thought..

That's what got me the most - all the families who were shattered last night, the people who got up that morning to go to work, all unknowing. When you break it down like that - you think of kissing your loved ones goodbye in the morning, walking out the door completely expecting today to be like any other. And it isn't...

indeed... so many lucky coincidences, so many stories I've heard about ppl who were late to work or feeling sick. But one has to consider that the folks who don't have those stories didnt't make it out.

Fate was certainly on your family's side. I am very happy to hear that they are all OK.

It's terrible how it started as just another day for everyone, and came to this...
It's another reminder to treasure what we have.
