Jan. 2nd, 2003 10:11 amTiiiiired. For no good reason. *yawn*
Been home for the past couple days; happily, the boss has been working on his NSF proposal and hasn't noticed whether we've been around or not. Like I got any work done, but anyway.
We went to see TTT yesterday and so now there are only three people left on the face of the earth who haven't seen it instead of five. Good flick, lots of fun. The CG is really breathtaking. It was one of the first movies I've seen with a CG character that didn't make me say "Look, he's computer-generated." Husband was a bit more enthusiastic about this movie because there was some closure at the end, unlike the first.
New Year's was okay; we spent it with some friends from college and associated fiances/spouses. We made a valiant effort to stay up a while past midnight and finally got home around 1:30 AM. Last year's was more fun but those people weren't available, and the people we spent this New Year's with wouldn't appreciate the kind of cooking we'd done for that party.
Am almost through the second disc of Cowboy Bebop bootleg. Guess what,
hidetomatsumoto, there's a whole episode about mushroom dealing! Shiitake, to be specific.
Have gotten through two VCD discs of Vampire Princess Miyu, which are just long enough for a good break after a couple hours of writing.
And now I must submit some mass spec samples and then bounce off to the library for a couple hours of hiding and thesis writing. Or else, a nap. Either one is equally likely right about now. *snore*

Date: 2003-01-02 07:39 am (UTC)I'm glad you are enjoying VPM. If you've read the manga, the ending won't be a huge surprise, but if you haven't, then you will be surprised (I know I was). Have you watched the OVA, or is that what you are watching now? It's not that important, but the ending in the TV series will seem even more surprising if you do watch the OVA first, because you might not otherwise even realize what is so unusual that happens--at least to the same extent. ;)
Yes! Thesis! Then nap. ;) Errr.. Maybe the other way aroud. ^_^;;;

Date: 2003-01-02 10:29 am (UTC)Don't tell me anything about VPM! I haven't read the manga and I'm only on ep 8. :) This is the TV series - I don't believe I have the OVA.
No naps yet. Working on it. :)

Date: 2003-01-02 03:08 pm (UTC):) That ep is one of my favorites too, that and the mushroom hunting with Ed and Ein... I definitely think the thing from the fridge ep is heavily influenced by the Alien movies. :)
Ok, Arafel, now that you have seen TTT, I'll be among the last 3 ppl not having seen it, so that'll be some guy in the outback of Northern Australia, one Inuit on Greenland and me not paying Jackson our dues.

Date: 2003-01-02 03:22 pm (UTC)You're right, that ep did seem like Alien, now that you mention it! Hah, well, we know that the creators have definitely been influenced by American scifi. BTW, in the episode "Speak Like a Child," did you notice that the TV program the otaku is watching is Beverly Hills 90210? I just about died. If you look carefully, you see something like "Jasan Prest" and "Shanen" at the end, and I know from 90210-obsessed friends that the twin brother and sister came to CA from Minnesota. :D

Date: 2003-01-02 05:58 pm (UTC)I guess the guy is planning to see TTT after all.... ;)
*snicker* Jason Prest and Shanen, that is so funny. Now that you mention those names I think I may have seen that. :) Very funny.
The guy on the run with the dog in the first eps is some kind of homage to one of the first movies Bruce Lee did. The sax music in the Gren ep is def inspired by the love theme in Bladerunner. Then there's the Asimov guy. Lots of influences...
