guess what I have...

I have Dove chocolate pieces.

That means you all want to be friends with me, right now.

Mmm, chocolate.

er, hon - in Britain? Dove is a brand of soap :)

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2005-03-29 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It's soap here, too, but it's also a heavenly brand of chocolate.

I've eaten American chocolate. Same difference :)

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2005-03-29 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahaaha nooooooo it's not. :)

I admit to having trouble with the bitter chocolate you Europeans are so fond of, like the superdark Lindt chocolates. American chocolate is tailored to American tastes, and despite having superior stuff available, most Americans will like Hershey best every time in blind taste tests.

you are the first American I have ever heard praise American chocolate. It's not a question of 'dark' versus sweet - i'm a big fan of milk chocolate, actually.

I just don't like eating carnuba wax when I've handed money over for chocolate.

I'm afraid saying 'Most Americans' like something or other to anyone outside the USA is pretty much an anti-recommendation. Especially when it comes to food.

Hey now, I didn't say *I* liked Hershey's best! *grin* Give me Lindt any day over a Hershey bar!

And yes, I'm fully cognizant that in many things, Americans have no taste. Trust me, I wouldn't be holding up American confectionery against the masters of the art in Belgium and Switzerland.

We have Dove brand soap in the US, but we also have (unrelated) Dove chocolate, which is about on a level with Cadbury's IMO. A Dove Bar is a sinful confection of wonderfully rich vanilla ice cream covered with chocolate, and eventually the company started selling the chocolate on its own.

..You know, my husband has a pal from Scotland who comes to the US and laughs his ass off at a type of chicken restaurant out in the West called Kenny Rogers Chicken. Of course, your average American will not know the alternative meaning of "roger..."

and let's not get into the hilarity which ensues when you guys start going on and on about 'fanny packs' :)

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2005-03-29 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That's always bugged me, too, but it's better than calling it "cooter pack" I guess.

I seem to remember a story about a conversation a Brit was having with an old woman from the Deep South and how he was utterly boggled when she said that her dad would tan her fanny when she was bad.

Ugh, no more chocolate. I overdosed the other day. Yet I can't stop eating it...

[identity profile] lizzyhamham.livejournal.com 2005-03-29 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
funny... i JUST ate a dove truffle. mmmmmmm... i still taste it.

Please. I live right down the block from the Dove chocolate factory! (And eight miles from Hershey.)

Now, who wants to be MY best friend? *G*
