<Okay, let's try this again, I can spell, really>

I really should not have had that big gulp before looking at those.. My GOD! that Sephiroth... That was quite frightening...

Pardon me while I mop up the puddle in front of my PC.

...Suddenly I'm glad that almost no one cosplays my favorite characters.

But the SeeD is awfully cute. =)

Yeah, he was a cutie pie! That's why I put that one in. ^_^

LOLOL !

*rolling around on the floor laughing out loud so office mates think I have gone insane*

Wah ha ha ha ha ha !!!

OMG that was soo funny !
:DDD

>For the Best Demonstration of Why Hair Color is Important to Your Cosplay:

Like, how can you believe you can cosplay Tseng and have short blond hair ??? How is anyone going to recognize that ??? And when your coat doesn't even look right ?

OK, the other guy had a coat that was black and some attempts at white shoulder armor so you got the drift who he was trying to be, not too sucessfully I might add, but come on ? Blond Tseng ?

Man, I've now seen 7 Seph cosplays online, 3 from Japan, 4 from the US. The only ones that looked decent were the 3 Japanese and 2 of those were girls !!!

What does that say about the quality or lack of quality in those costumes ? Not to mention the guy inside it when a Japanese girl can manage to look more like a caucasian game baddie that's listed as being 6'1'' than an American guy can ? I rest my case. It's all in the costume and hair, get that right and you will look belieavable. >_<

>For the FF8 Girls for Weight Watchers Award:

I know those who don't fit the perfect body mold have a right to cosplay and have fun too, but don't ask me to think they actually look like the chara they are cosplaying. They don't. At all.

>For the Pairings that Anger Fire Ceremony Award:

LOLOL ! Thank you, thank you. It really does annoy me. >_<
At least Cloudie says he liked Seph at one point in time. Sephy even calls Aeris "annoying" in the game and suggests that he and Cloud get rid of her, for god's sake !

>For the Is That Really Reno? Award:

He had found a red mopp and placed on his head ? Yet again, this is how it's NOT done...

>For the Please God No Award:

Pregnant Kuja ? >_<

>For the You Realize This Is Going to be Us Award:

Nope, since you will be having a Tseng that actually looks Asian next to you and you will actually have Reno's red hair, I think we may manage to look a tad better than this. :)

>For the I Rather Like This One - Good Job Award

OMG it's Nida ! *grin* And he's way cute !

If I had seen this guy I would have taken his pic immediately. Nice costume and he looks like a HS kid.

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2002-04-24 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not 100% sure that the blonde guy was Tseng, but the dot on his head and the Turk-like outfit... it's possible.

The Seph... well, I'll give him a few bonus points for not going after a bad wig job, but erk... The Aeris he was with did a great job on her costume, though. Very accurate and well-made.

Did the Japanese girls you saw have bleached white hair or was it a wig? Could you tell? Maybe American guys are less likely to go to hair extremes for a cosplay. Probably most American guys look at a cosplay the same way my husband does...

In truth, I was later informed that the red-haired guy wasn't Reno. It's a character from some other series whose name I've forgotten. However, Teri told me that said character has a white suit, not a black one.

*grins* The two Renos were more a tongue-in-cheek poke at the two of us. They didn't look bad. Teri told me that she had her picture taken with the two of them. The story of how she cosplayed Reno is rather funny. ^_^

Isn't that Nida a cutie! :D That same guy had a few other costumes, and they were all top-notch. ^_^

IIRC all of the Japanese Seph cosplayers had wigs, the male had a pretty bad one but at least it was white, he had a great sword and a not so nice coat but at least he had a good stance and had a body type which was slightly believable. One of the girls had a fantastic wig (she had actually managed to make those bangs) and a super detailed coat, she was the Sephy to the very detailed spiky haired female Cloud Orin posted a long time ago (the one with the silly white eyebrows and green contacts). I'm not sure if it was a girl or a boy actually. The other girl is the girl in the pic I posted from Sukebe Panda in my journal. Her hair looks to be either a wig or her own hair spray painted grey, but it looks natural, at least from a distance and her coat and belt are quite nice.

I have seen another Sephy cosplay btw, a Japanese male, white wig, very long hair, quite nice sword.

Anyway, they were far better than the sloppy and OOC looking Seph cosplays we have seen so far from the US, much more detailed and correct costume details and not to mention stance and pose. o_O

If guys don't view cosplay as something that should look similar to the chara's outfit, why do it ?

>However, Teri told me that said character has a white suit, not a black one.

Right... another example of "if you can't be a bit accurate, why do it if no one's going to recognize who you're trying to be."

>They didn't look bad. Teri told me that she had her picture taken with the two of them. The story of how she cosplayed Reno is rather funny. ^_^

Ooooh you must tell more of that when you have the time. That sounds like a fun story. :)

I was thinking what was possible to use as a cattle prod today btw... any ideas ?

I have to go to the toy store and find either a new squirt gun or I have to use the very hokey looking one (but which no one is ever likely to mistake for a real one) squirt gun I already have.

>Isn't that Nida a cutie! :D That same guy had a few other costumes, and they were all top-notch. ^_^

He really was a cutie ! He had chosen a role that fit him (instead of the other way around) so he was comfortable doing Nida look alike poses. :) It's something to think about when choosing a costume too, if you're very timid, you're not likely to do well as say Seifer or Laguna.

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2002-04-24 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember the pics from Orin's journal. But who's to say that the very best of the Japanese pics weren't culled out and displayed? Perhaps there were just as many silly Japanese cosplayers as there were Americans. One thing's for sure though, there are almost certainly far fewer obese Japanese players...

Perhaps American guys just don't have that Sephy touch. :) I did see one Laguna, and the guy underneath was not bad-looking. ^_^ (Mind you, I didn't say "good-looking," but he wasn't bad.)

You're right tho - to play someone like Seph or Seifer or Laguna, you have to be something of a drama queen to pull it off properly. As Teri said to me last night, "It's all in the attitude."

As for cattle prods: Teri recommended that I find a wooden dowel of the proper length and wrap it with electrical tape or something like that. I may poke around online to see if I can find something else, but that sounds like it will do in a pinch.

Best of luck with the gun. I'll keep an eye out for an American substitute in case you get leery about airport security. The last thing we need is for you to get hauled off in Newark for bringing an effing toy squirt gun in...

Re:

[identity profile] fireceremony.livejournal.com 2002-04-24 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)

Heh heh, my idea was to mail you the squirt gun on beforehand so I didn't have to have a suspect looking thing in my suitcase... if you take the chance on doing that of course.

Good to hear Teri could supply some advice on how to make a cattle prod, doesn't sound like a too time consuming thing to make.

(I've never seen a real cattle prod, only the not too detailed stick Reno wields in the game)

I'm just looking at some absolutely stunning Korean cosplay (will get a link up in my journal) and it definitely looks as if part of the costume is your attitude and pose and how comfortable you can be in the role... a bit of play acting for the camera it looks like.

Man, browsing these Korean images makes me want to cosplay Christian too... *drool*

If there are any toy stores close to where you are going you could always just stop by once you get over here. Save any possible problems. What kind of squirt gun are you looking for?

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2002-04-25 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
Preferably one that would look a little more authentic than a Super Soaker... but remember that scrap some years ago about people being held up with realistic-looking squirt guns? I'm not sure you can find anything but a fake-looking gun anymore. But I could be wrong.

[identity profile] lordraziel.livejournal.com 2002-04-25 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
Ummmmm.....I don't know about squirt guns. But you can find some fairly realistic looking toy guns. If they don't need to squirt something shouldn't be hard to find. They all have the orange cap at the end of the barrels but other than that I've seen some pretty cool toy guys when looking with Dv. They even have some that look like semi-auto that vibrate and slides move. And some revolvers where the hammer moves and they make a "bang" sound.

How come they didn't have cool toys like that when I was a kid? ;)

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2002-04-25 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm! Where do you find these things, LR? What kind of store? If I could find an appropriate gun, then we might not have to worry about FC getting dragged off by airline security... I'm very worried about that.

[identity profile] lordraziel.livejournal.com 2002-04-25 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll check the local toy store. Any particular type of toy gun? Semi-auto, revolver, black, green, etc. More than one?

Something that looks like what the guy cosplaying Christian / Hydelloon in my recent most is holding. :) What is that supposed to look like ? Some kind of Desert Eagle ? I'm clueless about large guns.

*shudder*
