At this time tomorrow, jaina and I will be well on our merry way to Katsucon, though I anticipate we'll get stuck in traffic several times.

So much to do tonight. Brilliant me, I don't seem to have a handy paintbrush, so I have to spend valuable time heading out to Michael's so I can finish the 4th squad badge for Isane. (mebbe will go at lunch.) To add to that, my hakama still need to be ironed, and the two kimono could use a pressing as well. Oh, and the Seung Mina outfit too. :P Oh, and my "Anime: Crack is Cheaper" bag is missing. Again. Which is, like, my best bag for cons.

Argh.

Anyway, it should be a good time, if for no other reason that DC is a fun town and there are lots of good places to eat. Plus, buttercup022 has taken it upon herself to do some strenuous research and find the best bars.

And I am totally not looking forward at all to the potential for wanksplosions between cosplayers. I didn't make sure that my camera was cleaned off, nope. Didn't even check photoshoot times.

i'd have to say yes. definately on that level. people were bitching so much that they were like "let's boycott it!" They wree whining about rules, the level system, who's in charge, the judges, and so on.

What people forgot is that it's a silly hobby and that skits art for fun. People kept coming to me saying "aren't you mad about this and that!?" um, no! It's just a friggin skit. Get over it.

*checks fandom_wank* If you're talking about who I assume you are, sadly, that's standard abuse team protocol. Full real name = potential invasion of privacy (since one can look up full names and get addresses and phone numbers which would potentially spill harassment over into the real world), so if someone complains about a poster using their full name, said poster must remove it or be suspended. Most people just take off the last name, and then everything's cool - except that the person whines "BUT MY NAME IZ STILL THAR" and the abuse team has to patiently explain over and over that it's not a FULL name anymore, thus not invading one's privacy, because plenty of people have that first name, and so on. (I dealt with this numerous times. Sigh.)

I only really say "sadly" above because in some cases, everyone knows who this person is without the full name being involved, and the abuse team still has to follow the procedure because it's procedure. The only exception is when it's an actual celebrity, whose names are generally considered to be public domain - therefore they can really only complain in the case of defamation of their person and libel and so on.

*grins* I had a feeling you'd chime in, since you know more about LJ Abuse than anyone else on my flist. Thanks for clearing up the protocol - it would annoy me a lot to see my real name posted in Ell Jay, but I wouldn't have considered it grounds for suspension. Guess it is!

Most people don't consider it grounds for suspension - it's almost never reported unless the person reporting and the person doing the reporting hate each other. ;) Most of the time the people who are being named and complaining about it could probably use a little real life harassment, just so they'd get the idea that really, someone saying you're a slut on LJ is really, truly not the end of the world and/or cause to declare war.

I use people's real names sometimes, because I know they don't mind. And if in the future they decide they hate me and report past instances to LJ abuse as invasion of privacy, well, it's as easy as going to the post (all LJ abuse emails contain links to the post with the violations - in fact, they won't do anything unless the person REPORTING a violation contains direct links to the entries in violation) and removing the last names.

I'm kind of surprised that the person in question here didn't do that, but maybe he thought the email was a joke or something. We've had people tell us that a lot, because the person who reported them was always talking about reporting them and getting their journal suspended, and they didn't think LJ abuse would actually suspend someone over something like that when it's been flamewars on both sides for months. ;) And then they remove the name, the journal is left alone, and they go back to their flamewars.
