Because I am a nerd and an otaku, I went poking around on the web for Trigun cosplays. After finding this link, I have a new appreciation for the master cosplayers:

Vash Cosplay

Why? Because these ladies built the costume from the bottom up. They have the skill and the expertise to make a pattern from scratch, and to recognize what kind of a technique is required to create a certain effect. I'm nothing short of awed. I mean... I busted my ass to make that Amalthea dress, but it's decidedly amateur next to something like this.

And - considering how much effort it took me to make that Amalthea dress, I can't even imagine how much time it took to conceptualize, design, and sew something as accurate as this version of Vash's coat.

Geez. When I see something like this, I'm alternately amazed that there are people this talented, and jealous that I'm not one of them! ^_^

You can't be a master at everything! I think you have a nice balance of talents. I'm jealous of you! ^_^

Wow! That is quite impressive...

Speaking of Trigun, the MangaProject site currently has the complete first volume of Trigun available on their front page. Other volumes are available, too, I'm sure, but you have to dig around on IRC for them. (I was digging around there today for more Karekano, since my usual source's FTP site is down....but to no avail. My interest has been rekindled after watching the first ten episodes during my recent vacation!).

IloveyouIloveyouIloveyou! *hugs*

and they're translated too... waaaaiii!

I saw the first 3 eps of KareKano last weekend. It's a great anime! I've been told, though, that the anime sags towards the end because the manga wasn't finished. Is there another volume out now? AFAIK, there were 6 eps on the first DVD, so there must be a new one.

HEEEEEEEEE!!! *HUG!*

I have also heard that the KareKano anime drops off somewhat at the end, but you're right -- the manga has more than twice as many "acts" as the anime does. It will be interesting to see where exactly the anime concludes, though given what happens at the end of that Maboroshi AMV, I have a good idea of how far Miyazawa and Arima's relationship progresses (spoiler!). Anyway, I'm also really enjoying KareKano so far...great stuff indeed!

Not yet... the next DVD (episodes 7-11) is currently scheduled for release at the end of October, I think. When I was at home visiting, we were watching some fansubs courtesy of one of my sister's friends, who has all 26 episodes on tape. I'm tempted to see if I can snag a full copy from her friend, but his tapes were already copies of copies of copies, etc, and the quality was variable. (We stopped at the 11th episode because the entire screen was jerking to the left every few seconds, and it gave us all a headache). I'll probably just wait and collect the DVD's as they come out. That way I can also savor the experience of the first time viewing as long as possible. :)

Veery nice Vash cosplay ! Very detailed and correct coat and with the boots to match ! Cool !

>The duster is a straight-front coat that closes with a zipper that starts at the waist and ends at the black inner collar. Over this, the bib is attached by snaps. The decorative belt and side straps attach at the >waistline buttons.

This is the way the majority of the Vash coats we saw seemed to have been made too.

Oh and.... how did she do the hair !!! That's what we'd like to know !

[identity profile] ssilverfish.livejournal.com 2002-08-24 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'll bet it involved a lot of hair mousse and a blow dryer... my friends and I used to give each other similar hairstyles at slumber parties. I'm betting one would have to have rather thick hair for the style to maintain its shape for any period of time though. :)
