(no subject)

Got home last night just ahead of the storm to find my husband waiting out in the rain for me with an umbrella.

I really do love him something terrible.

Since I just couldn't pass up grabbing Paula Volsky's The Grand Ellipse on the way home (Borders is right off the highway and it sings to me) I got a thorough scolding for being silly and staying out when there was a massive storm on the way.

Getting home was a torture test; ominous clouds creeping in from the west, and traffic jammed north to south because a portion of highway was closed, possibly from an earlier storm. A forty-minute trip took more like 1.5 hours, plus Borders time.

While we were listening to the storm play out in the TV room, we heard crackles and booms that sounded suspiciously like fireworks. Hubby and I went into the kitchen, and indeed, it was Fourth of July across the street. We felt just terrible, because these shows are often on timed fuses and it seemed that something had set the local town's Fourth of July fireworks display off, whether it was a lightning strike or a short circuit. So we enjoyed the show, but it was so sad to think that their expensive and carefully-planned show wouldn't be available on the right day.

Finished the top edges of the cotehardie; still have to put in the grommets and eyelets, and then hem the sleeves and the bottom of the skirt. And finish the insides of the sleeves... *groan*

Ah and [livejournal.com profile] ssilverfish, I picked up a copy of "Steering the Craft." Gonna have to put that one under the bed until after the thesis, but it's very tempting.

Already setting up fireworks for next week? It must have been one huge display they were setting up! Hopefully they have enough fireworks to replace the ones that got prematurely set off.

Hmm... So I arrive in NJ and it's raining, I can expect to be greeted with open umbrella?

"Does tossing one out the front door count?" Arafel asks.

It was a large display; we probably sat for half an hour. I'm sure it was expensive, too. I hope they can get more as well. :(

Speaking of the thesis, how is that coming?

Errrr... don't ask.

The umbrella - what sweetness. I was quite touched when I read that; thank you for sharing it.

I was pretty touched too, when I saw him. ^_^ Sometimes husbands are just so nice.

Sounds like you had the weather we have had today. Sudden storms, lots of rain. I think it rained out the fireworks scheduled for tonight too. That makes three years in a row the Fourth fireworks have been washed out.

The umbrella was very nice. But then, he'll get over that stuff! lol

It's almost two years and we're still being sweet, so I'm holding out some hope. :)

The line of storms was all up and down the East Coast, so I think we all got socked with the same system. But too bad that your Fourth fireworks got washed out too. Things look nice for this year.

Aww... your husband sounds like a sweetheart. :)

Yay! I hope you like it... that book hooked me from Exercise One (which I still revisit from time to time -- I almost always read my writing aloud now while I'm editing it). I also like it that her exercises are specifically geared toward improving the quality and pacing of one's writing. In many ways, I think that book has made me a much better editor than before.
