(no subject)

So we are watching the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics, right before the Parade of Athletes...

The presentation of the WTC flag was very moving and respectfully done. The choir sang beautifully. Great portion.

But I really must ask about this whole "Child of Light" being pursued by Icicle Men...

Who thinks this sh*t up?

Oh, that was tonight--completely forgot about that.

Yeah, who thinks this stuff up, indeed. And people think I'm a shroom head! =P

You'd think that for the money they'd come up with something a little less weird, but no...

I watched part of it last night and thought it was pretty dopey too. Personally if I was that kid I'd have found a blow torch or something and melted Mr Icicle. The funny thing to me was the announcer said that the program had been three years in the works. Three years and that is the best they can come up with??? I think next time they should let me do it. I'll charge them a lot less of a fee and it would be hard to come up with something dumber!!! At the very least I'd be saving them some money......

Three years in the works and lord knows how much money! The thing that staggers me the most is that someone thought it was a good idea. Someone put it all on paper, and someone got all excited about it... so we get to watch the Icicle Men chase a little kid.

Yeah, I think you should be in charge next time too. :)

I didn't know you were interested in winter sports. What sports do you watch ?

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2002-02-11 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm.. I'd say I watch the Olympics because they're on. It would have been more interesting if my friend Ari had gone on to train in speedskating for Salt Lake City, but no, he went to med school instead. :)

I saw on the TV that your countrymen have won a few medals (I saw the ceremony for Women's Moguls and heard your national anthem) and that your troops were very happy when Norway was coming out in the Parade of Nations.

That would have been something to watch, a friend in the Olympics, wow.

Right, the media are doing an unbelieavable amount of hype and bragging about the medals and the number of medals they expect to win. A bit prematurely says I but I stay away from the hype. I think it's a bit embarassing, a country's national pride depends on how well it does in sports... what does that say about accomplishments in other aspects of life...

*dryly* There's an awful lot of noise on TV here, as well. The Olympics should be about sport, not an international pissing contest.

Oh well.

Hey, I guess we should be thankful it isn't as bad as the Izzy-thingie that was all over the 1996 Olympics. *Bleh...* (Anyone remember him? Had a cartoon special and everything, which I regret even watching...)

I remember Izzy. *sigh* Again, who thinks this sh*t up...
