Bad acronyms

We have had some hilarious acronyms come through recently in company emails that I'm sure were not intended as they are read. Or maybe they are.

For example, something called: Project SOL.

Then there was the FOD Management team.

Just today, I saw that a new site was being launched called [company]-CRS.

What's next? The FUBAR initiative?

Back when I was still doing reference work, I had to help a very sheltered freshman girl who'd learned the hard way that you shouldn't try to search for information on the Moro Islamic Liberation Front using only their acronym.

*LAUGHS*

Oh dear. That poor girl.

Tea, out the nose, onto the keyboard.

That's kind of amazing.

Well, as [livejournal.com profile] laughingrat pointed out, there's Family Medical Leave.

HA! I never noticed that. It's perfect.

"The FUBAR Initiative" should be a late 70's political thriller starring either Gene Hackman or Michael Caine. Or both.

It's amazing sometimes how out of it corporations and some people are with acronyms. I still laugh about the tea-bagging.

I want to ask, "Do you understand why 'Project SOL' might be self-defeating?"

OTP and POS are common acronyms at my job.

Hee.

Convenience store X coffee: OTP!
