fartitude

Nothing makes you feel old like realizing that the cartoon you're currently jonesing on and loved as a kid is now over twenty years old.

On the other hand, Youtube makes me happy and gives me some reassurance that my first ship hasn't sunk, and I'm not the only old fart in the boat.

Top 5 Egon and Janine Moments

I'm in that same boat with you. I must have watched an obscene amount of Voltron the past few months (and more to come, since they're releasing the original, uncut series XD!), and it, too, is over twenty years old. I have co-workers who are younger. O_O

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
My first cartoon crush was on Keith, but you knew that. XD Let's be old farts together. :)

Break out the cane and memory pills. Time to go back to when cartoons were cool!

30 Minutes of 80s cartoon openings

What I find funny is that despite Dungeons and Dragons being a truly terrible show, they made a secondary opening for it. WTF? XD

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasted half an hour of my morning watching that, and I loved every minute of it. It's all your fault. :D

[identity profile] ladyofthesea.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I stayed up until almost 1:30 AM watching it last night, and I loved every minute of it too. XD

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Just to be completist, we also watched 30 minutes of 90's cartoon openings. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmcKGcKW76M&NR=1) X-MEN WAS NOT IN IT WTF

[identity profile] ladyofthesea.livejournal.com 2008-05-17 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Thundercats, Gummi Bears, Garfield and Friends and Smurfs were also no shows in the 80s one. I'd rather take those over the Gilligan's Island gang goes to outer space or Go-Bots. Srsly.

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, and? Husband is downstairs watching Voltron, right now. I kid you not.

[identity profile] ladyofthesea.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Whoa. Scary. XD

Yes, he was! Lorenzo Music was great. The show suffered when he was replaced with Joey from Full House.

Trufax. Animated!Peter had it all over Bill Murray.

[identity profile] maeveth.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I kind of totally love you for posting that.

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh good, someone else got a grin out of it. :)

Was Real Ghostbusters one of your kidly joys as well?

[identity profile] maeveth.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god yes it was. Watched it religiously. I am currently having kidly flashbacks thanks to that.

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
*is delighted*

Hurray! Someone to geek out with! :D I swear, RGB must have subconsciously influenced my decision to go into science.

I have to say that I do not understand, at all, why this series has not been released on DVD yet.

[identity profile] maeveth.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
I KNOW. I would buy that SO DAMN FAST.

...although I admit to forever being baffled as to why Egon was blonde.

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
You and I would have to fight it out as to who got to be first in line. :)

I'm more baffled as to how Egon got his hair to stay like that. The ponytail in EGB was an improvement, even if the character designs went downhill.

[identity profile] maeveth.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
I can take you, beeyotch. XDD

I know! How in the world did he get his hair to look like a damn croissant and stay that way? The amount of gel involved must have been epic.

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
OH NO YOU DI'INT.

The amount of gel involved must have been epic.

I assume you've seen "There's Something About Mary," right?

[identity profile] maeveth.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'MMA HURT YOU.

...oh god you HAD to go there, didn't you?

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
THAT BOX SET IS MINE, BETCH

Someone had to say it, for science!

Can I just say I'm really glad I'm not the only person to know of EGB? Because I swore I was the only one (oh, the crack of that series, man).

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2008-05-18 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't watch it with the same degree of devotion as RGB, but I did see a couple eps, and it had its moments.

[identity profile] cassandramorgan.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
I have you beat!

On the way home, we passed some classic cars sprawled out with their hoods up in a parking lot - very showmanlike. Shortly after we drove past, I realized that one of those cars (a Corvette, to be specific) was from the early 80s. I am now older than a classic car. ;_;

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
If only being older made us as collectible as old cars! :)

[identity profile] lumen.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha, good to see that someone else does this, too. :D I was so happy when I found out that someone had uploaded old Dungeons and Dragons cartoon clips to Youtube. Must've spent one evening just going through them.

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, I used to watch that show too. Thank goodness for the Internet!

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Guess the original Trek shippers have everybody beat, though!

Hmmm. Is Star Trek the oldest, or is it Doctor Who? I've never checked.

What happened with Quantum Leap? Did it just get cancelled without a resolution?

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah! I'm picking through the ST history - fascinating (hurrr!) I can't even imagine what this would have looked like if the Internet had existed back then. It was, indeed, at a ST convention that I first became aware of the existence of slash, thanks to a zine cover.

can only be properly written using the last vital drops of Bellisario's heart's-blood

How do you really feel about it? :)

That's such a pity - I didn't watch Quantum Leap, but it was well-regarded, and to have such a poopy ending is a smack in the face to all the fans who kept the show going for so long.

...oh, Lord, I was one of, like, six people to like the QL finale (but that may have had to do with it *having* a finale as opposed to everything else I ever watched which just seemed to get unceremoniously canceled instead).

Egon and Jeanine were pretty cute.
