Baby snake

This is my new pet snake!

(WARNING: viewing this picture may make you explode from cute.)

It's a hatchling ringneck snake, and one of husband's coworkers found it caught in a spiderweb. We thought we'd take care of it at least until it gets a little bigger. They eat worms and bugs, so I won't have to cut up mouse parts.

I'm naming it Midgard. Always wanted to name a snake that.

OMG CUTE SNAKE IS CUTE!!!!

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
HE IIIIIIIIIIIISSSS. Especially his little snakey tongue.

Awwww, it's adorable!

And what a perfect name--though it does seem a bit weighty for such a tiny snake. *g* Oh well, it can worry about encircling the world when it grows up.

Hee. You're right in that "Midgard" ought to be the name for a ginormous ball python, but it's kinda ironic for our little hatchling and that's cute too. :D

Cool! That penny must be, like, a foot across!!!
(^_^)

Seriously, though: 'The Midgard Serpent'.
(smirk)
Just don't let any longhaired vikings into the house until it's big enough to take care of itself.

Hee. Our little fella is only supposed to get to be 18 inches max, so I think the only thing he can squish will be a worm.

[identity profile] scathachdhu.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's adorable.

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It just proves the theorem that "the miniature version of almost anything is cute."

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
ZOMG CUUUUUTE. Wow, I can barely comprehend how small it is even with the penny for perspective.

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
He's actually longer than I thought! Still bitty, but he's about 4 inches long.

Aw, she's a bitty little thing!

And, hey, no hair to clean up.

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
But, snake poo. We do have to get Midgard to eat something soon.

Oh my, it's absolutely gorgeous! Incredible how a being so small can be so beautiful. :o

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The picture really shows how delicate his little head and scales are. He has a lovely yellow belly, too.

Oh, that's so cute! I've never seen such a small snake :-)

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think he was shelled all that long ago, because the websites I've read indicate that ringneck eggs hatch in August/September.

He's quite shy, although that could partly be the results of OSHIT HAND OF GOD COMING FOR ME AIEEEEEEE. We bought him a terrarium and put bark litter from the pet store on the bottom, and he burrowed right in.

OMG IT'S SO BITTY IT GOT STUCK IN A WEB???

OMG CAN I PETS IT???

...PLEAZE???

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
You can certainly hold him, though he's quite wiggly! I dropped him in the kitchen sink, but luckily there wasn't anything in the sink and I'd put the stopper in.

We found a toad in the yard the other day - my dad is remaking our patio, and he was living under some stones.

He didn't appreciate being held. He peed on me.

I APPROVE OF THE SNAKE AND HIS NAME. though he's a bit tiny for his job yet.

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
But he's going to try very hard to get big!
